The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Mr. Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the project aligns squarely with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the areas of sustainable energy, affordable transportation and economic inclusion.
“The Ibom CNG City Bus Terminal is a proof of futuristic leadership,” Ekpo said, commending Governor Umo Eno for prioritising long-term development through cleaner energy solutions.
According to the minister, Nigeria’s deliberate shift to Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, is driven by the need to reduce dependence on petrol, cut transportation costs and fully harness the country’s vast gas resources.
“Nigeria’s shift to CNG and LPG is aimed at reducing dependence on petrol, lowering transportation costs, and maximising our vast gas resources,” Ekpo stated.
He noted that the Ibom CNG project positions Akwa Ibom strategically within the national gas value chain, while supporting cleaner mobility and energy security.
“This project aligns perfectly with the Renewed Hope Agenda on sustainable energy and transportation,” the minister said, adding that it reflects value-driven governance and forward-looking policy execution.
Ekpo expressed delight at the vision behind the initiative, describing it as a model for sub-national governments seeking to combine sustainability with economic growth.
“I am delighted by the forward-thinking vision behind this project, which reflects sustainability, value addition, and inclusive growth for the people of Akwa Ibom State,” he said.
The Ibom CNG City Bus Terminal is expected to support mass transit services powered by cleaner fuel, create jobs, deepen gas utilisation and reduce carbon emissions, reinforcing Akwa Ibom’s emerging role as a hub in Nigeria’s gas-based energy transition.
