Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline leak contained, inspections underway

Yenagoa — Nigeria’s state oil firm NNPC Ltd said on Monday it had contained a leak on the key Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline in the oil-rich delta following an explosion last week and that it had safely isolated the affected sections.

A joint preliminary inspection by NNPC, the midstream regulator and maintenance contractors has been carried out at the site, the company said in a statement.

The incident, reported on December 10 in South-West Warri, prompted coordinated containment measures to protect host communities, personnel, and the environment, NNPC said.

The Escravos–Lagos pipeline system, with capacity to pump 2.2 billion cubic feet per day, is a critical link in Nigeria’s gas network, feeding power plants and industrial users in the southwest.
