Description

ConocoPhillips Canada is seeking an undergraduate or post graduate student majoring in Geophysics who will have the opportunity to practice and develop their geophysical skills in a company that is committed to technology and personal development.  The successful candidate will join our multi-disciplinary teams based in Calgary, Alberta for a four month term starting May 2023.

The student will assist in the interpretation of time-lapse seismic data in one of our legacy SAGD pads, utilizing seismic and well data to understand steam chamber growth and development over time. They will gain experience in Petrel software by interpretation and database management (Studio). They will be expected to summarize their workflow, seismic interpretation, and learnings with a final presentation to the reservoir characterization team to aide in new pad developments. Other project work may include interpretation of key horizons, attribute analysis of the reservoir and caprock, integration of new wells and information into the overall geologic framework of the area.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpretation of time-lapse seismic data over several years
  • Presenting results of project work to team and management
  • Utilizing Petrel software

Required Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Geophysics
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must be returning to study at a post-secondary institution following work term
  • Proficient (ability to perform the skill with limited assistance) in Microsoft Products Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, familiarity with Spotfire would be beneficial
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada on a regular full-time basis without restrictions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic geoscience understanding (well logs, seismic theory and interpretation)
  • Experience with workstations and networks an asset
  • Programming experience is useful but not a requirement
  • Some exposure to mapping systems like ArcMap, Accumap, Petrel
  • Ability to use a practical approach when analyzing problems
  • Must possess good communication and organizational skills
