Our client, a global a major supplier of heavy sands products to the customer base operating in over 15 countries, is looking to appoint a successful IT Manager to be based in Mozambique

Purpose Statement
This is the highest business unit (BU) IT manager role. The BU IT Manager has complete ownership of the establishment of the BU IT operation, IT corporate strategy execution on site and ensures its integration with the enterprise’s business strategy and the delivery of all information and technology capabilities required to achieve business capability performance success.

As a member of the unit management team, the IT Manager participates in and contributes to the overall operating model and business strategy development. The IT Manager brings a current knowledge of leveraging information and technology in business operation, business capability delivery, service development, and deploying technology as a competitive advantage.

Position Description

Contributes actively to unit strategy and business capability execution. Contributes to the development of the IT strategic plan and roadmap. Ensures integration with the unit’s planning process, and the resulting unit strategy and plans.
Establishes active relationships with unit GM and unit leadership team. Acts as a trusted advisor to ensure all unit leaders can, with the IT Manager, make confident decisions about the application of information and technology (I&T) within their streams.
Ensures I&T capabilities are delivered reliably, sustainably, cost-effectively, and securely. Ensures the IT contributions are delivered with agility based on changing business objectives, goals, and strategies.
Supports the design and implementation of I&T operating model, organizational structure, and governance process. Uses influencing and negotiation skills to create synergies across the unit to enable cost-effective and innovative solutions in the achievement of business goals.
Collaborates with unit management to execute the technology business strategy. Participates in and contributes to the assessment of external digital opportunities and threats, and internal technology capabilities required to achieve desired competitive positioning.
Provides oversight for the design, development, operation and support of IT systems and programs that fulfil the needs of the business, including enterprise architecture management, application management, security and risk management, and infrastructure and operations support management.
Develops and controls annual operating and capital expenditure budget for IT to ensure the investment in technologies is consistent with the enterprise’s overall strategic objectives and is within the plan.
Engages and works with HR and key stakeholders to map out capability development for IT workforce transformations. Develops the IT workforce to align with and enable the effective execution of business and IT strategies.
Develops and maintains an IT workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills and competencies. Balances the need for growing the agility required to support operations, and achieve digital business objectives, with ensuring the core IT functions are reliable, stable and efficient.
Ensures employees have the tools and work environment to be more engaged, productive and effective.
Participates and partners with the business leadership team to drive culture change in support of digital business transformation. Manages risks through the effective design, delivery and management of I&T capabilities for the enterprise.


Bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent work experience


10 years or more of ICT experience in either a mining or manufacturing environment.
Three to five years of management responsibilities.
Preferably five or more years of experience in related, mining or manufacturing, cross-functional teams or enterprise programs, managing ICT operations through IT service management (ITSM), vendor management, data center, telecommunications and security.
ICT operations, identifying opportunities, negotiating investment, and deploying change across the organization and within complex contexts.
Demonstrated experience in operations and transformation, program management and innovation.
Preferably proven experience or demonstrated capability in managing complex and or transformational initiatives in dynamic environments and taking advantage of digital opportunities to innovate business processes and enable the digitalization of the business adding value to our core operations.
Engaging in major decisions and procurement of technology center, around technology modernization, optimization and consolidation, and major IT systems, such as ERP and mining applications.

Knowledge and Skills

Exceptional management skills with the ability to develop and communicate clearly to the management level and to direct reports by inspiring and motivating staff.
Excellent analytical, planning and execution skill with effective influencing and negotiation skills.
Strong business acumen, including in the manufacturing/mining industry. It is a must to have experience managing and deploying ERP platforms in large organizations. Experience with waterfall and agile methodologies is a must.
Experience with ICT operations and monitoring leveraging ITIL and DevOps’ principles, defining KPIs and performance management.
Experience in budget planning and financial management.
Knowledgeable with IS/IT systems and infrastructure, especially for cloud environments. Experience with IoT and Machine Learning will be a plus.
Demonstrated ability to execute a strategic people plan that ensures that the right people are in the right roles at the right time and that employees are highly engaged and satisfied.
Ability to identify and leverage resources internally and externally to the company to enhance capabilities that drive digital business
Ability to build capabilities that effectively balance the needs for continuously exploiting capabilities to optimize operational efficiency, with delivering innovative and agile ICT solutions to enable the business to explore digital business opportunities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and technologies to business leaders, and business concepts to the ICT workforce.
Fluent in Portuguese and English.
