Position Summary

This position is for an Advisor level petrophysicist working with the Exploration Excellence team, reporting to the Exploration Director, based in Houston.  Hess, as a large competitive position in Guyana, US deep-water GoM, North Malay and Williston Basins.  However, as one of the last mid-size independents, with a strong financial future, it is ideally placed for growth.

The Exploration Excellence team is responsible for supporting Hess’s business teams in operations across the globe. The primary role of the Petrophysics Advisor will be to deliver operational support to active drilling campaigns (exploration through development), as well as analysis/preparation of logs suites in support of regional exploration campaigns.  In addition, the successful candidate will be required to mentor junior team members and foundation geoscientists on rotation.  Implicit requirements of the role will be the capacity to engage/develop a rapport within the team and across individual business units.  Additionally, a strong network with external service providers building trusted partnerships is key.

The role requires extensive experience in deterministic and probabilistic petrophysical interpretation, in conventional reservoir and offshore, deep-water settings.  Advanced knowledge of operations, LWD and wireline acquisition are fundamental to this role, underpinned by a thorough knowledge of tool and sensor physics.  The ability to advise and influence in well design/planning with multidisciplinary teams/partnerships is a key skill.  Proficiency in understanding the acquisition, quality control and interpretation of pressure gradient data, integrated with fluid sampling is of crucial importance.  The candidate should also have extensive experience in the design and  integration of core analysis datasets from routine porosity and permeability all the way to mineralogical and SCAL experiments such as capillary pressure for generation of saturation height functions.  NMR interpretation and integration (in both clastic and carbonate systems) is preferred.

A significant part of this role is integration with other disciplines (Petrography, Geochemistry, Rock Physics etc.,), integrating results with other subject matter experts.  Not only is this essential in support of reservoir models (with impact on resources/reserves) but additionally impacting exploration activities from regional to drill-test.  Furthermore, petrophysical conditioning of elastic log data, for integration with quantative geophysical analysis is a key skill in this role.  Experience in determining geologic facies and hydraulic flow units for modelling inputs is also preferred.  This position will have a high profile within Hess and be expected to turn-around evaluations under tight deadlines.  It is ideal for a dynamic high-energy individual seeking a significant opportunity to impact the company’s future.
