Are you a collaborative team member looking for a new accounting opportunity? As the key contact, you’ll provide daily cash application support to our highly transactional Downstream business and support our large network of retail and wholesale customers. You will work closely with diverse teams to ensure the timely application of payments in our system.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Serve as the primary accounting support to process daily customer payments into our financial system
  • Utilize an external bank website to process electronic payments and cheques
  • Manage and recommend changes within the bank application that will improve automation rates and reduce manual exceptions
  • Act as the primary liaison to our credit collections team to respond to inquiries and provide payment backup
  • Oversee a general inbox that stores e-mail remittances from our customers noting what invoices they are paying
  • Handle incoming manual cheques for redirection to the appropriate location for deposit
  • Perform day-to-day accounting entries and follow up on unidentified payments lacking sufficient backup to clear cash received in our bank
  • Provide support to process payments requested to be recalled from the bank
  • Post adjusting entries to customer accounts and provide confirmation

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Two years of related experience in accounting, finance, payments or banking
  • Previous exposure to financial accounting processes such as cash, general ledger and bank reconciliations or accounts receivable/accounts payable

Preference for:

  • A university or college degree in finance or accounting
  • Accounting experience with a good understanding of fundamental accounting principles
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • A continuous improvement and growth mindset, with curiosity to seek greater knowledge of systems & processes

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
