Summary

The Top Drives Apprentice Millwright is accountable for the regular maintenance of Topdrives, studying specific problems and taking corrective actions to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain PD Topdrives.

 

Responsibilities

  • Read diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
  • Operate rig equipment and dollies to place heavy machinery and parts
  • Fit bearings, aligning gears and shafts, attaching motors
  • Align and test equipment and make any necessary adjustments
  • Perform preventive and operational maintenance and repairing or replacing defective parts when necessary
  • Trouble-shooting hydraulic and pneumatics
  • Capital repair, overhaul, new builds, and certification of Topdrives
  • Manage spares and inventory
  • Test related to all styles of Top drives. Tesco HXI, NOV IDS, and TDS11, more specifically
  • Investigate equipment failures to determine if there are procedural contributions to those failures
  • Foster solid working relationships with rig managers, superintendents, yard supervisors, and vendors
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the field personnel for the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of Topdrives
  • Maintain standard inspection and repair procedures for the Topdrives
  • Ensure that proper fuels, lubricants, pressures, power and parts are used on the equipment
  • Keep up to date with all Precision Drilling’s core values, key beliefs, and safety culture
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned by the Drilling Support Center Topdrive Manager
  • This position is shop-based but will involve regular travel to field locations
  • Field visits and travel to remote rig sites across North America as required
  • Participate in on-call and overtime as required
  • Various other duties as required

Highschool Education

 

Education

Completed or in the process of completing the second period of vocational training from a post-secondary institution or comparative experience

Completion or in progress of completing the minimum 1560 on-the-job training hours

Highschool Education

 

Experience

2+ years of experience working in a shop or manufacturing environment is preferred 

Must have a valid vehicle operations license (abstract required)

Energy or oilfield services industry experience is highly desirable
