Job Role Summary

 

A Contract Lead has overall responsibility to manage contract life cycles by driving value and efficiency, while ensuring operational integrity. This role supports the procurement needs for a specific commodity within ExxonMobil.  A Contract Lead will own and manage agreements in a specific category. Examples include, but are not limited to: Capital Projects, Drilling & Exploration, Rigs, Upstream Operations, Catalysts & Chemicals (polymer, additives, etc.), Craft Labor (welding, painting, etc.), Efficiency Contracting (low value agreements), Equipment & Materials (valves, turbines, etc.), Corporate (facilities, IT, travel, etc.) Fuels and Lubes (base stocks, marketing, etc.), Professional & Technical Labor (temporary, consultants, etc.), & Transportation & Logistics (trucking, warehousing, rail, marine, etc.).

Job Role Responsibilities

 

  • Own portfolio of contracts
  • Support Procurement organization in development and implementation of category-specific strategy and commercial guidance 
  • Identify business value and competitive opportunities within the portfolio
  • Own commercial actions (bids, renewals, amendments, etc.)
  • Meet all Controls requirements
  • Be a market expert (with support from category management)
  • Understand the commodity, supplier landscape, and supplier capabilities
  • Visit suppliers and build relationships
  • Be knowledgeable of compensation structures and rates for the commodity 
  • Develop expertise in local supply/demand – follow peaks and troughs 
  • Explore technologies and innovation from suppliers, trade shows, market events
  • Understand agreement health and utilization and ensure contract is utilized as intended
  • Identify efficiencies from leakage, overheads, and third party markup rates and utilization
  • Optimize compensation method utilization (for example lump sum versus time & materials)
  • Monitor agreement costs (e.g. insurance, overheads, etc)
  • Understand business line needs
  • Visit agreement users to understand their view of supplier performance and competitive landscape
  • Build relationships with end users
  • Understand how agreements are being utilized at transactional/operational level
  • Be a SPOC for your commodities; get involved in the agreement user processes
  • Measure applied value – track value generated as agreements are utilized
  • Optimize payment terms
  • Measure agreement leakage and other key agreement health metrics

Job Requirements

 
  • BS in Engineering, Supply Chain, or other applicable business degrees
  • Strong analytical, leadership, negotiation, and communication skills
  • A minimum of 3 years of contracting experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of O&G sales or procurement experience

Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

 

  • Procurement / commercial functional expertise
  • Understanding of client business and objectives
  • Familiarity with/experience in procurement for the oil and gas industry
  • Leadership skills
  • Communication skills
  • Analytical skills / understanding of total system cost concept
  • Effective negotiation, advocacy and influencing skills
  • Knowledge of purchase to pay process including enterprise resource planning systems
  • Project planning / execution skills
  • Category specific knowledge including: Capital Projects, Drilling & Exploration, Rigs, Upstream Operations, Catalysts & Chemicals (polymer, additives, etc.), Craft Labor (welding, painting, etc.), Efficiency Contracting (low value agreements) Buying (global transactions), Equipment & Materials (valves, turbines, etc.), Corporate (facilities, IT, travel, etc.) Fuels and Lubes (base stocks, marketing, etc.), Professional & Technical Labor (temporary, consultants, etc.), & Transportation & Logistics (trucking, warehousing, rail, marine, etc.)
