Job Description:

Our client, a leading manufacturer in the mining equipment sector, is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to manage and analyse all production-related costs within its operations. The successful person will work closely with production, purchasing, and management teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial data that supports strategic decision-making and profitability improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and resolve material over/under recoveries and abnormal cost variances across materials, labour, and overheads.
  • Prepare and supervise manufacturing cost centre budgets and forecasts in collaboration with department heads.
  • Process and reconcile weekly and monthly wages accurately and on time.
  • Report and maintain accuracy of all inventory balances.
  • Apply group inventory reserve policies and ensure valuation at lower of cost or net realisable value.
  • Coordinate annual cost updates and conduct product profitability analysis, including Bill of Materials.
  • Perform machine rate calculations and assess purchase price and labour variances.
  • Accrue and analyse inbound/outbound freight, clearing, and warranty costs, recommending improvements.
  • Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Support monthly closing processes, capital expenditure submissions, and audit activities.
  • Prepare management reports (Manco & Opsco).
  • Oversee physical inventory counts and monitor cycle-count programs.
  • Ensure adherence to QMS and compliance with financial control standards.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting or equivalent qualification (CIMA qualification advantageous).
  • 3–5 years’ relevant experience in Cost Accounting within manufacturing or mining environments.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and global reporting structures.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data tools (Power Query, Power BI).
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
