Our greatest asset has been and will continue to be our people.  We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Sr. Counsel within our Legal Department and help grow the company’s information technology and data privacy practice. The position will be based in Houston, TX.


Oxy is seeking an experienced and motivated transactional attorney to provide legal advice on a variety of its key initiatives across Oxy business units, including the Oil and Gas business units and the Low Carbon Ventures business unit.  This position will offer an opportunity to play a vital role in Oxy’s transactions relating to project development, strategic partnerships, capital investments and commercial contracts.  


Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage all aspects of complex domestic and international transactions, including acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures and major projects
  • Draft, review, negotiate and interpret a wide range of commercial agreements and other contracts, including joint venture/partnership/shareholder agreements, investment agreements, services agreements, purchase and supply agreements, transportation agreements, intercompany agreements, confidentiality agreements, letters of intent, and term sheets
  • Advise on start-up and joint venture formation and debt and equity financings
  • Identify and counsel management with respect to potential risks, claims and disputes arising from commercial contracts and transactions, and propose practical solutions.
  • Manage outside legal counsel in connection with transactional and regulatory matters
  • Coordinate across various departments as necessary in connection with potential transactions, including tax, accounting and corporate secretary teams
  • Attend to general corporate and day-to-day legal issues.



  • Juris Doctor degree for an accredited law school
  • Experience in the energy industry is preferred
  • Must be comfortable with fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
  • Minimum of 6 years of transactional experience at a top law firm
  • State bar membership in good standing
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Must be able to multi-task and manage competing deadlines
