Our client, a major mining organisation operating a gold project in Central Africa, is seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to oversee and ensure full environmental compliance of gold processing operations. The successful candidate will manage environmental performance across leaching, CIL, and hydrometallurgical circuits, while ensuring alignment with international environmental standards and best practices. This role requires strong expertise in reagent management, effluent control, environmental impact mitigation, and ESG integration within gold mining.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure full environmental compliance across gold processing operations, including leaching and CIL activities.
- Develop, implement, and monitor site-wide Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) specific to hydrometallurgical operations.
- Oversee monitoring, safe handling, storage, and disposal of chemical reagents used in gold processing circuits.
- Assess, report, and minimize the environmental impact on soil, water, and air.
- Establish and track environmental performance indicators (KPIs) for reporting to management and regulatory bodies.
- Lead internal and external environmental audits in alignment with international mining standards.
- Advise operational teams on environmental best practices and drive continuous training initiatives.
- Participate in environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for new facilities and planned mine expansions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives involving ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) integration across mining operations.
Qualification and Skill:
- Engineering degree in Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the mining sector, with mandatory experience on gold operations.
- Proven expertise in environmental management of hydrometallurgical processes (CIL, leaching, chemical reagent circuits).
- Strong knowledge of local and international environmental regulations applicable to gold mining.
