Job Description:
Our client is seeking an experienced and senior Executive Mineral Resource Manager (MRM) to provide executive-level leadership across the full Mineral Resource Management value chain. The role is responsible for ensuring the accurate definition, optimisation, governance, and public reporting of Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves, while translating geological and technical data into robust business plans and sustainable life-of-mine strategies.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this position plays a critical role in technical governance, regulatory compliance, and long-term value optimisation within a deep-level underground gold mining environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership across the full MRM value chain, including geology, resource estimation, survey, mine planning, ore control, reconciliation, and reserve conversion.
- Oversee the preparation, governance, and sign-off of SAMREC-compliant Mineral Resource and Mineral Reserve statements, acting as (or overseeing) the Competent Person function.
- Lead Life-of-Mine (LoM), long-term, medium-term, and short-term mine planning, ensuring plans are technically sound, economically optimised, and operationally executable.
- Ensure effective ore control, grade management, reconciliation, and reserve depletion monitoring, including the management of dilution, losses, ore lockups, sweepings, and vamping activities.
- Provide executive oversight of Technical Services functions, including Geology, Survey, Rock Engineering, Mine Planning, Valuation, Occupational Hygiene and Environmental inputs
- Translate complex technical information into business plans, feasibility studies, and executive decision-support material.
- Ensure full compliance with SAMREC, SAMCODES, MHSA, DMRE, EMPR, and Mining Charter requirements, supporting audits, inspections, and regulatory engagements.
- Oversee Mineral Rights conversion processes, servitude management, and technical inputs into SLP-aligned planning cycles.
- Drive risk identification and mitigation related to Mineral Resources, mine design, production sustainability, and long-term asset value.
- Champion digitalisation, systems optimisation, and data governance across MRM platforms, modelling software, and reporting systems.
- Lead talent development, succession planning, coaching, and mentorship within the MRM and Technical Services teams.
- Manage departmental budgets, training investment, and research & development initiatives.
Requirements:
- Mining-related degree (Mining Engineering, Geology, Survey, Rock Engineering or related discipline).
- Honours or Master’s degree in a relevant mining discipline preferred.
- Registered as a Competent Person in line with SAMREC requirements, with professional registration such as: Pr.Sci.Nat (SACNASP) or Pr.Eng (ECSA).
- Membership with SAIMM / GSSA (or equivalent)
- Minimum 12–15+ years’ experience in underground gold mining, with at least 7+ years in senior MRM or Technical Services leadership roles.
- Experience in Mineral Resource estimation and classification, Reserve conversion and reconciliation, Underground gold mine planning (LoM, LTP, STP), Public reporting and technical assurance processes
- Strong working knowledge of geostatistics, resource modelling, and modern mining software, such as Leapfrog, Datamine / Studio RM, and MRM systems.
- Solid understanding of mine economics, value optimisation, and EVA-based decision-making.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage at executive, board, and regulatory level.
