Job Description:

Our client, a leading mining company, is looking for an Expediting Superintendent to manage logistics, expediting, and customs clearance activities that support both operational and project requirements. This position is key to ensuring the efficient and cost-effective delivery of materials and equipment to site, working closely with internal teams and external suppliers. The role also focuses on enhancing customs and freight procedures while maintaining accurate, up-to-date expediting reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop logistics procedures for operations and projects.
  • Oversee the full logistics and expediting process from sourcing to site delivery.
  • Resolve issues related to logistics non-compliance, service quality, and invoice/payment processing.
  • Prepare and manage tender packages for logistics services and oversee competitive bidding.
  • Implement effective freight methods and consolidation strategies.
  • Engage and evaluate logistics providers for service efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage permits for transport of dangerous goods and special cargo. 
  • Supervise, coach, and provide technical support to logistics and expediting teams.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and implement training/coaching initiatives.
  • Foster skill development and communication within the team and across departments.
  • Lead capacity-building and knowledge transfer for junior staff.
  • Ensure compliance with company HSE and ESG practices.
  • Monitor fitness-for-work of team members.
  • Maintain adherence to hazard management plans and safety standards.
  • Ensure statutory and internal HSE reporting is completed as required.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent 4+ year Degree) in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 15 years of experience in industrial supply chain or logistics, ideally within the mining sector or similar industries.
  • Solid expertise in expediting, customs clearance, and vendor management.
  • Proficient in ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics preferred) and MS Office tools.
  • Skilled in developing procedures, documentation, and conducting audits.
  • In-depth knowledge of logistics, procurement, and expediting best practices.
  • Strong understanding of INCOTERMS, transport documentation, and global freight markets.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and time-management abilities.
  • Proven leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder relationship management skills.
  • Familiar with risk management, sustainability, and compliance standards.
  • Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and adaptable in dynamic environments.
  • Experience in multicultural settings, ideally in West Africa.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends when required.
