Midland Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips holds approximately 376,000 total net acres in the Midland Basin, which includes approximately 251,000 unconventional net acres located in the heart of West Texas. The company operates over 3,100 wells across Midland, Upton, Andrews, Martin, and Glasscock counties.

In 2022, the company operated five drilling rigs and brought 111 operated wells online. Net production in 2022 averaged 140 MBOED.

Description

If you are selected as the Financial Analyst you will sit on the Midland Basin South Asset Team and report directly to the Operations Manager. The Financial Analyst interacts and problem solves with various asset leaders to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Prepare annual and monthly operating expense budgets for business plan submissions through close coordination with Finance and Operations teams
  • Provide annual opex data for year-end reserve process working with corporate Reservoir Engineering and other asset teams
  • Facilitate and QA/QC Operations team monthly accrual submissions to Finance
  • Attend monthly Production, Opex, and Capital accrual meetings with Finance
  • Assist Finance with variance analyses for production, operating expense, and capital drivers
  • Understand accounting guidelines and provide support on capital vs. expense and coding accuracy
  • Be able to analyze data in an effort to identify trends and recognize errors
  • Serve as cross functional support as an Engineering Technician
  • Assist engineers in all stages of operations: analysis, production reporting, and presentation of data using knowledge of spreadsheets and other company software such as Wellview, SAP, Spotfire Tools, etc.
  • Provide support to conduct well review/optimization meetings with field operations staff to identify and mitigate significant losses and identify optimization opportunities
  • Support efforts in Data Analytics through creation and maintenance of analytics tools using Spotfire or Power BI
  • Provide support as needed for various studies and projects for operations team
  • Improve planning processes among the Operations, Reservoir, and Planning teams to streamline budgeting and outlooks
  • Assist in preparing recurring leadership reports and ad hoc requests
  • Create workorders for tracking costs

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States as a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as a permanent resident, refugee, or asylee
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, science, technology, business, or related discipline or foreign equivalent
  • 5+ years of proven industry experience analyzing technical data
  • Moderate level of proficiency with analytics solutions such as Spotfire and/or Power BI

Preferred:

  • Strong ability to acquire, assimilate, and handle data
  • Understand how key financial and quantitative indicators impact the business and has experience with cost analysis
  • Experience with Wellview, Spotfire, Excel, SAP
  • Prior experience supporting engineers or operations
  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by courageously dealing with important problems, holding others accountable, and standing up for what is right
  • Invites dialogue to gain a shared understanding and influences with confidence to drive performance and achieve business results
