Job Description:
An established mining house in the Northern Cape is seeking an experienced General Engineering Superintendent to lead maintenance and engineering activities for the processing plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring equipment reliability, maximizing plant availability, driving safe work practices, and managing engineering teams to support operational objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise engineering and maintenance teams to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
- Develop and implement preventative and planned maintenance strategies for all fixed plant equipment.
- Monitor plant performance and equipment reliability, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, health, environmental, and mining regulations.
- Manage maintenance budgets, cost controls, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate shutdowns, repairs, and maintenance projects to minimize downtime.
- Oversee contractor performance and project execution.
- Mentor, develop, and manage artisans, supervisors, and maintenance personnel.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and engineering documentation.
- Collaborate closely with production teams to achieve operational targets and business objectives.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- Mechanical Trade Certificate and N6 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering.
- Fitting and Turning qualification.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Certification in First Aid, Safety, and related technical courses preferred.
- 10+ years’ experience in crushing and screening plant maintenance within the mining sector, with at least 5 years in a Supervisory or Superintendent position in engineering maintenance.
- Experience in Iron Ore or Manganese mining environments.
- Multi-skilled in a range of artisan trades.
- Contract and / or project management experience advantageous.
- Strong leadership, communication, planning, and organisational skills.
- Sound understanding of maintenance cost analysis, budgeting, and resource management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on safety, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement.
