Job Description:

Our client, a leading EPCM organisation, is currently recruiting for a General Manager to lead its Cape Town–based operations. Reporting to senior executive leadership, the General Manager will have overall accountability for the performance, growth, and governance of the business. The role is responsible for delivering high-quality professional services across studies and projects, aligning technical capability with business strategy, and building strong, sustainable client and stakeholder relationships in line with company standards and values.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive Business Plan to support sustainable growth, operational excellence, and long-term profitability.
  • Lead and strengthen relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including clients, partners, and vendors, with a strong focus on repeat business and new opportunities.
  • Provide strategic leadership across EPCM projects and studies, ensuring delivery in accordance with company standards, client expectations, regulatory frameworks, and contractual requirements.
  • Align organisational structure, technical capability, and staffing with project demands and long-term strategic objectives.
  • Ensure all professional services are delivered on time, within budget, and to consistently high-quality standards.
  • Uphold and enforce corporate governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks across all business activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement through the adoption and refinement of systems, procedures, work practices, and delivery models.
  • Lead, or where required directly support, the preparation and review of high-quality proposals and tenders tailored to client and project requirements.
  • Provide overall leadership to multidisciplinary technical teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and performance excellence.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Chemical, Metallurgical, or related discipline), Commerce, or equivalent from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ relevant industry experience, including senior leadership or general management roles within EPCM, mining, or project-driven environments.
  • Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is required.
  • Strong background across project development, studies, and EPCM delivery within the mining and minerals processing sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex organisations, manage change, and operate effectively in technically and commercially demanding environments.
  • Proven capability to build and sustain trusted relationships with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to evaluate work practices, implement systems, and refine operating models to improve performance.
  • Solid analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills with a results-driven mindset.
  • Ability to consistently achieve high standards of delivery within budgetary and schedule constraints.
  • Commitment to mentoring, professional development, and succession planning within the organisation.
  • Proven ability to build strong, effective relationships with clients, vendors, and colleagues.
  • Must be a South African citizen or hold permanent residency.
