Job Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced General Manager Operations to lead and manage underground hard rock mining operations across multiple sites. This senior leadership role carries a legal 4.1 appointment in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act and is responsible for driving safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining operations while achieving production and business objectives.

The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational leadership across mining operations, safety, financial performance, people management, and stakeholder engagement. This role requires a seasoned mining professional with strong underground mining experience and a proven track record at Mine Manager or senior operational leadership level.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall strategic and operational leadership for underground hard rock mining operations.

  • Hold and execute the legal 4.1 Mine Manager appointment, ensuring full compliance with MHSA and regulatory requirements.

  • Drive a strong safety, health, and environmental culture across all operations.

  • Deliver production targets through effective mine planning, execution, and optimisation.

  • Lead and develop senior operational and technical teams to achieve high performance.

  • Manage operational budgets, cost control, and financial performance against KPIs.

  • Oversee mining systems, equipment utilisation, and operational efficiencies.

  • Lead major operational and mining projects from planning through execution.

  • Engage with key stakeholders including regulators, contractors, communities, and senior leadership.

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Tertiary qualification (BSc, BTech, or National Higher Diploma) in Mining Engineering or Geology.
  • Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (essential).
  • Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (advantageous).
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in underground hard rock mining, including at least 5 years at Mine Manager level.
  • Strong knowledge of underground mining methods, equipment, and technology.
  • Proven leadership, people management, and decision-making capability.
  • Advanced computer literacy and proficiency in mining and office software.
  • Valid Code B driver’s licence and English proficiency.
