HYBRID ELIGIBILITY

This position works a hybrid schedule, spending time remotely and in the office in Houston, TX. The current hybrid schedule provides flexibility to collaborate in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays and work from home Mondays and Fridays. With our 9/80 feature you get time off very other Friday when you work at least 80 hours over the preceding nine days.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is for an Exploration Geologist in Hess’s Exploration Gulf of Mexico (GoM) Regional / New Ventures Team. The Regional Team is responsible for the geological underpinning of Hess’s growing Miocene and Mesozoic portfolio with regional analysis.  We seek an experienced and well-rounded geologist who will provide technical expertise in areas that include field analog studies, sub-regional interpretation and evaluation of hydrocarbon play elements and the integration of those elements to help extend plays and/or de-risk and mature prospects. This position reports directly to the Exploration Manager, Gulf of Mexico Regional.

 

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute 2D and 3D regional to prospect seismic interpretation, including sub-salt and structurally complex areas with challenged seismic image quality integrating well logs and seismic stratigraphy
  • Generation and characterization of impactful exploration opportunities and their associated key uncertainties and risks
  • Working knowledge of salt tectonic and deepwater depositional systems concepts to identify depositional fairways and predict reservoir presence on a play and prospect scale
  • Working knowledge of stratigraphic, structural and petroleum systems data types for the purpose of integration, trend identification and phenomenon explanation/prediction
  • Experience in structural geology and ability to interpret complex subsalt areas is a plus
  • Strong individual contributor and team player

  • Active participant in external meetings with ability to influence through technical work and sound reasoning
  • Additional duties will also include Lease Sale and data room evaluations support

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • Proven track record of data integration, structural and stratigraphic interpretation, well-seismic integration, well log interpretation, and opportunity generation/maturation
  • Technical expertise or familiarity with regional geology and prospective plays in the Deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico; experience in the Paleogene/Wilcox and eastern GoM Mesozoic deepwater clastic and eolian plays a plus
  • Structural understanding of, and seismic interpretation experience in salt basins
  • The ideal candidate will have a broad range of regional-play-prospect evaluation skills, display competence in salt tectonic regimes and possess both geological and geophysical interpretation experience. 
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills and commitment to continued learning and improvement.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills essential
  • Ability to manage projects with a strong focus on delivery and results

 Education, Training & Certifications

  • 10 or more years of experience in the Oil/Gas industry, preferably within salt basins (Gulf of Mexico preferred)
  • Extensive experience in Deepwater Exploration
  • MSc or PhD of Science in a Geoscience field required
