The Opportunity:
Are you passionate about working at a world class mine? Canadian Natural is seeking a well-rounded Geologist with strong technical and communication skills to join our Horizon Production Geology team. In this role, you will support CNRL Mine Operations and Mine Technical by tracking and analyzing operational and geological mine data to improve the geology modelling and execution. This position focuses on the weekly – 1 month planning level to ensure ore quality is consistent and sustainable.
Key Accountabilities:
- Maintain effective communication with stakeholders including Mine Operations, Mine Planning, Bitumen Production and Geology
- Work with team members to create and maintain the operational mining model while looking for opportunities to improve benching and readiness
- Manage, report, and analyze reserves reconciliation data as it relates to mining recovery and regulatory reporting
- Work closely with mine planners to optimize ore blend and minimize plant upsets
- Support production geologists by reviewing areas of concern and providing geological interpretations to correct model issues with field execution
- Support production geologist in the field and available for vacation coverage
- Continuous improvement projects for block properties, ore recovery and correlations between ore body and processing recovery
- Support geophysical logging, pit sampling, and other daily operations
Other Details:
- Job location: Horizon Project site north of Fort McMurray
- Shift schedule: 4 days on, 3 days off – Monday through Thursday, 10 hrs/day, (possibility of transitioning to 7×7 Tuesday through Monday, 12 hrs/day)
- Company-sponsored Fly-In/Fly-Out from Calgary or Edmonton
- Relocation: Eligible for relocation to Calgary, Edmonton or Fort McMurray, Alberta pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Policy

Skills & Qualifications:
- A Geology degree from a recognized institution & Registered or eligible to register with APEGA as P.Geo
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in geology
- Must possess a valid class 5 Drivers’ License with a clean record
- Highly motivated individual with good communication and positive attitude
- Experienced in using MS Office, MinePlan (previously Minesight) and Petrel
- Knowledge of the McMurray Formation and/or previous mining experience will be an asset
