ExxonMobil’s state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team

 

We are seeking a creative and energetic geophysicist to join our team at ExxonMobil’s campus in Spring, Texas.  You will apply advanced geophysical analysis to deliver integrated solutions across the asset lifecycle for our Upstream and Low Carbon Solutions businesses.  You will collaborate across disciplines to develop subsurface predictions, shape technical strategy and business decisions, and drive innovation in geophysical methods, workflows, and technologies.

 

What you will do

 

  • Conduct geophysical analysis across diverse subsurface settings to deliver physics-based, geologically consistent, quantitative predictions of rock and fluid properties and spatial extents.
  • Identify opportunities where geophysical insights can reduce uncertainty or improve decisions.  Design technical workplans and ensure high-quality execution.
  • Collaborate with geoscientists, engineers, and other functions to shape data acquisition programs, drilling operations, and asset investment decisions.  
  • Work with ExxonMobil technical core centers and business units, as well as co-venturers.
  • Communicate technical findings, uncertainty, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Drive workflow improvements and technological advancements.  
  • Engage with external vendors, technical consortia, and academic partners to evaluate and incorporate emerging innovations.
  • Support capability development by mentoring colleagues, sharing best practices, and contributing to internal knowledge networks.

About you

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Strong technical foundation in one or more of the following:

    Rock physics
    Seismic inversion
    Forward seismic modeling
    Direct hydrocarbon indicator (DHI) analysis
    4D seismic cross-equalization and analysis
    Borehole geophysical data acquisition and interpretation

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to tailor messages to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Permanent right to work in the United States.
  • MS degree or higher in solid earth geophysics or exploration geophysics.
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience with a record of success in technical problem-solving and delivering high-quality geophysical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

 

  • Record of innovation, technical integration, and creative problem-solving.
  • Background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or other data science methods applied to geophysical or subsurface challenges.
  • Experience with integrated seismic interpretation and mapping, supported by a foundational understanding of stratigraphy, sedimentology, and structural geology.
  • Experience working across lifecycle stages for hydrocarbon and/or carbon utilization and storage assets.
  • Experience in potential fields methods such as gravity, magnetics, or controlled source electromagnetics (CSEM), including data QC and integrated interpretation.
  • Experience with passive monitoring techniques such as microseismic analysis, Global Positioning System (GPS) deformation monitoring, or Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) for subsurface or geomechanical applications.
  • Knowledge of full-wavefield inversion (FWI), seismic processing, or advanced imaging technologies.
  • Programming skills (Python, MATLAB, scripting for HPC platforms).
