SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB’s global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.
Description & Scope
In this role, the intern will help identifying more efficient concepts for geothermal energy production and well construction. They will adapt and develop appropriate technologies to manage and optimise heat flows in a selection of highly relevant geothermal domains including the downhole system and surface facilities. The project will involve laboratory work, simulation and theoretical considerations.
Deliverables
- Identifying, selecting and verifying suitable technology and blueprints
- Using data processing, analysing and interpreting methods together with an understanding of physics
- Planning and carrying out experimental work (ensuring compliance with highest Health, Safety and Environment standards)
- Liaising/coordinating work with other disciplines
- Writing and presenting technical reports and scientific publication
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Master Degree – (Penultimate or Final year) in mechanical/process/civil) engineering, science (physics/geology), or related fields or a related discipline
- Oral and written communication skills in English
- Good motivation, autonomy, teamwork, and ingenuity
- Experience in processing a variety of energy data
- Strong analytical skills and ability to develop novel solutions to research and engineering problems
Preferred Skills
- Proven expertise in subject of heat transfer or heat exchangers
- Modelling systems that span multiple physical domains, such as electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and thermal systems (e.g.: MathWorks Simscape)
- Programming languages for data analysis (e.g.: Matlab, Python)
- 3D CAD modelling
- Programming languages for data analysis (e.g.: Matlab, Python)
- 3D CAD modelling
- LaTeX for document preparation
