About Houston
ExxonMobil’s state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team
- The Category Manager has overall responsibility to drive value creation, commercial intensity, and competitive advantage through disciplined, persistent internal and external market research as well as development and execution of category strategies. They are responsible for design and execution of high-impact commercial actions, supplier relationship management and distribution of effective strategic, commercial, and contractual guidance.

What you will do
- Develop, own, and implement category specific strategies and guidance, aligned with business and functional stakeholder objectives and market conditions.
- Conduct business, category and market research – analyze and synthesize to incorporate strategies and commercial guidance, identify best practices, and promote innovation.
- Deliver cost savings, cost avoidance, business, value chain and/or operational efficiencies leveraging total cost of ownership discipline as well as commercial intelligence including should cost models, benchmarking, and market indexes
- Analyze business and functional stakeholders needs and market trends
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key/strategic suppliers fostering open communication and collaboration.
- Leverage and support supplier relationship management (SRM) framework to mitigate risk, improve performance and unlock value.
- Identify, achieve, and report on value, sustainability, and supplier diversity objectives.
- Lead, coach and mentor Contract Owners, fellow Category Managers, business and functional stakeholders on sourcing and commercial best practices and tactics
- Actively contribute to developing and building commercial and sourcing skills within the category and across the Procurement organization.
- Establish and directly negotiate and/or support negotiations of agreements with advantaged terms, best in class compensation, and strong supply security features.
- Create and maintain category planning sites and tools to drive value for category
- Chair global category network calls to support dissemination of category knowledge, share best practices and market intelligence, and ensure alignment with global company priorities.
- Develop Category Total Cost of Ownership models to support commercial activity
- Drive and steward business value and identify contract rationalization opportunities within the portfolio
- Monitor the selection and management process of current suppliers, verifying compliance with the policy
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of all category influencers and become the commercial category subject matter expert
- Develop and maintain strong technical knowledge of category
About you
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree Supply Chain, Engineering or other applicable business degrees
- A minimum of 15 years relevant Procurement experience
- Proven ability to identify innovative solutions and savings opportunities with suppliers
- Demonstrated experience with change management and in managing complex projects.
- Supplier Relationship Management experience
- Excellent negotiation experience, including terms and conditions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to interpret market data including using benchmarking and indexes
- Ability to assess industry trends, latest technologies, and best practices in a timely matter to identify and take full advantage of market opportunities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated leadership ability, including leading without direct authority.
- Experience adhering to and enforcing project and procurement controls policies
- Expertise in strategy development
- Demonstrated proficiency using data analysis tools and solutions for reporting and decision making.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to evaluate commercial opportunities within the context of overall business objectives
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
- A minimum of 15 years experience in the Oil and Gas Industry
- Experience within Craft category across multiple business lines
- Business and category management acumen
- Experience managing global networks / international business experience
- Strong understanding and application of total cost of ownership, and ability to derive total cost of ownership models and should cost models
- Demonstrated Project planning / execution skills
- Proven ability to drive continuous improvement / innovation
- Knowledge of purchase to pay processes (Buying, Contracting, Payables)
- Knowledge of basic to more advanced (e.g., performance based) commercial constructs with ability to effectively design and negotiate into a contract instrument
- Demonstrated experience in contract development, setup, and stewardship.
- Demonstrated ability to lead virtual team projects or initiatives
- Ability to lead developments and advancements of commercial proficiencies within team, category, and across Procurement.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external parties.
- Ability to think strategically, identify opportunities and develop actionable plans.
- Demonstrated understanding of key market players / dynamics of domestic and international logistics
