Job Purpose (Summary)
A Heavy Duty Mechanic diagnoses, repairs, and maintains large vehicles and equipment (trucks, construction machinery, farm tractors) by inspecting systems (engines, hydraulics,electrical), replacing parts, performing preventative maintenance, and conducting all while following strict safety protocols in varied environments, often involving physical exertion and exposure to dirt, noise, and fuels. 

Key Responsibilities/Duties
? Inspection and Diagnosis: Check bulldozers, cranes, loaders, graders, and other
heavy equipment for proper performance and use computerized and other testing
equipment to detect faults or malfunctions.
? Repair and Maintenance: Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts,
components, or systems using hand and power tools. This includes working on diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, transmissions, and brakes.
? Preventative Care: Perform routine maintenance work, such as cleaning, lubricating, and servicing equipment and attachments to prevent breakdowns and extend equipment life.
? Testing and Compliance: Test repaired equipment for proper performance and
ensure that all work meets manufacturer specifications and safety regulations.
? Documentation and Communication: Maintain accurate records and documentation
of all repairs, maintenance, repair costs, and inventory of spare parts. Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and equipment operators or customers regarding repair needs and progress.
? Field Service: May perform emergency repairs on equipment at various job sites,
which requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
? Welding and Fabrication: May be required to perform welding and metal fabrication to repair broken parts or create new components.
? Guidance and Training: In senior or lead roles, mechanics may mentor and provide technical guidance to junior mechanics or apprentices. 

Qualifications & Skills
Education & Certifications
? A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a technical or vocational
school program in heavy equipment repair or a related field often preferred.
? certifications for diesel engines or specific equipment manufacturer certifications are highly valued added.

Experience
? 5+ years’ professional driving experience, preferably within oil and gas, engineering, or construction environments.
? Previous experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic, with more
complex roles requiring several years of experience.

Technical Skills
? In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems,
proficiency with diagnostic tools and software, and the ability to read and
interpret technical manuals and schematics are essential.

Working Conditions
? Resumption time is 7am with flexibility as the need arises.
? Standard 8-10-hour shifts daily with flexibility for overtime based on project demands.
? Frequent travel across project sites, sometimes in challenging terrains.
? Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
? May require overtime, weekend, or night shifts.
? Exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery.
