Description:

ConocoPhillips Canada is recruiting for an Instrument Journeyman to join our Surmont Maintenance Team. Reporting to the E/I Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of all Instrumentation calibrations and repairs for the facility and well pads, and will contribute to developing start-up plans, work procedures, and safe operating practices. This is a 14/14 rotational role with flight coverage and camp accommodation provided.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Support and align with the policies, goals, efforts, and programs of CPC’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Management System. Ensure HSE issues are given primary consideration in all activities undertaken within area of responsibility. Unsafe acts and/or conditions, no matter in what area of responsibility, are to be reported so corrective actions can be taken.
  • Troubleshooting of control systems for equipment such as high-pressure separators, air compressors, gas scrubbers, crude dehydrators, water cut analyzers, multiphase flow meters, etc.
  • Fixing and maintenance of automated safety systems
  • Apply Cause & Effect Charts and SAFE charts in problem analysis.
  • Calibrate and repair of measuring and process control equipment such as pressure control valves, TT, FT, and LT’s.
  • Ensure that all-working tools and equipment as necessary to carryout out safe and efficient instrumentation work are available and in good working condition.
  • Take primary responsibility for the timely certification of all instrumentation calibration equipment (bench and field equipment).
  • Provide leadership and contribute to all HSE efforts in day-to-day activities.
  • Provide input to Planners/Schedulers in task list development for maintenance plans, items, and work orders.
  • Responsible for developing Instrumentation maintenance procedures (SSMP – Site Specific Maintenance Procedures)
  • Ensure that all Maintenance Workorder shop papers are fully and accurately completed to maintain SAP equipment and work plan records.
  • Provide recommendations to ensure critical spares are available and stocking levels are correct.
  • Improve production by leading and participating in RCFA’s to eliminate repeat failures.
  • Provide feedback for the development and continuous improvement of the Predictive/Preventative Maintenance (PPM) program.
  • Assist the E/I Maintenance Supervisor in management of all the regulatory recordkeeping for instrumentation equipment such as PSV’s, fiscilization meters, etc.
  • Participate in the On-line Network of Excellence (NoE) Turbo Machinery, Production Services & Optimization and Maintenance and Reliability providing support, questions and or suggestions.
     

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-10 years of Instrumentation maintenance experience, with valid Alberta or inter-provincial journeyman certification.
  • 5 – 10 years Oil &/or Gas field experience is desirable
  • RTU experience is desirable.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.
     

Preferred:

  • Strong computer skills (MS products – Word; Excel; Project; PowerPoint)
  • Extensive experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance experience in PLCs, basic and advanced electronic/pneumatic instrumentation and oil and gas measurement and control devices.
  • Working knowledge of control systems for fired heaters, multiphase/centrifugal pumps, reciprocating compressors, turbine generators, and low and medium voltage switchgear.
  • Previous experience in SAGD process equipment is highly desirable.
  • Detailed knowledge of automated safety systems 
  • Cause & Effect Charts and SAFE chart analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation testing and measuring equipment 
  • Strong skills in interpretation of instrumentation, process, and control drawings
  • Solid understanding of interpretation of PLC logic drawings
  • Demonstrates a strong dedication to exemplary safety and environmental work practices.
  • A true understanding and commitment to HSE leadership, and CPC’s core values.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
