Internal Communications Manager

Our client is seeking an Internal Communications Manager to work within their facilities located in Deer Park, TX for a long-term contract. This position will work directly with the Director of Communications with a focus on internal communications and will manage/ direct three contractors in support of the work to effectively communicate to nearly 2,000 workers who are onsite in both office and field positions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have at least 8 years of relevant work experience as a communications professional overseeing internal communication initiatives 
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field
  • Must have strong writing and editing skills with excellent command of AP Style – samples required
  • Experience with the subject matter and translating technical content into communications for broad audiences
  • Experience in developing and executing internal communications strategies in a way that effectively reaches audiences both in the office and field-based workers.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong and efficient writing competencies across digital, video, and print platforms
  • Think several steps ahead and anticipates the needs of internal customers and senior leaders 
  • Proven self-starter with strong organizational and project-management skills delivering flawless execution while paying attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines, with the ability to remain flexible when priorities change

Responsibilities:
 

  • Collaborate with the Communications Director to develop and execute internal communications plans, campaigns, and strategies in support of the site’s values and strategic objectives
  • Oversight of contract resources including a full-time communications advisor and full-time graphic designer. Will also have a part-time communications specialist and a videographer (on a needed basis) to help deliver internal communication needs.
  • Manages internal editorial calendar repurposing content mobilizing the team to publish a professional weekly e-newsletter and weekly digital signage
  • Develop plans to expand communication channels for a weekly printed newsletter for field workers and suggest new methods of effectively communicating with frontline employees and contractors
  • Draft executive communications and oversees planning on a quarterly result video
  • Provide event planning support on employee engagement projects, such as family days, leadership offsite seminars, and other internal sitewide activities.
  • Manage and develop communications resources and toolkits in support of the internal plans, such as key message documents, PowerPoint presentations, process/procedures, and various training materials
  • Maintain the integrity of the site’s brand standards
  • Support the Public Information Officer in incident response communications.
  • Align leaders on messaging, resources, upcoming events/activities, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in the manufacturing or related industry in a communications-related field
  • Prior experience in a newspaper reporting role
