Essential Job Functions
- Independently applies the principles, theories and concepts of operational accounting to assignments at a higher level of proficiency and productivity.
- Focuses a significant portion of efforts on analysis and problem-solving.

- Assists in developing and promoting sound recommendations that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
- Works with Manager and Lead Accountants on complex tasks and projects and may function as a project leader on small to medium sized projects.
- Assists with the training and mentoring of less experienced staff.
- Is sought out by staff members as one who possesses knowledge and understanding.
- Development of leadership skills, interaction with Operations and Planning and high profile projects and exposure to management.
Other Job Responsibilities
- Approve project requests for asset teams as assigned by supervisor
- Ensuring proper capital/expense classification of project cost
- Ensuring appropriate approval authority
- Validating exploration/development determination
- Review monthly journal entries as assigned by supervisor
- Review monthly DDA analysis files
- Review account reconciliations as assigned by supervisor
- Monitor/review monthly accrual working files
- Provide variance analysis on various income statement and balance sheet accounts as required for monthly financial reviews
- Monitor Other Field Equipment/Service Operations bookings
- Collaborate with stake holders on accounting issues and their resolution (operations issues)
- Work with Land and Joint Interest Accounting on Working Interest owner issues.
- Collaborate with Joint Interest Accounting and Asset Teams on various OBO issues.
- Review quarterly Fair Value disclosure tools as required for SEC reporting
- Prepare quarterly and annual disclosures as required for SEC reporting (Well counts, Costs Incurred, Contractual Commitments, etc.)
- Perform annual physical Material & Supplies Inventories and work with material controllers to resolve issues
- Perform various SOX controls related to Fixed Assets and Inventory accounting.
- Assist in special projects as required (may include system testing for IT projects as well as MA&D requests)
- Collaborate with Financial Analysis, Planning, and Asset Teams to ensure proper reporting of monthly and quarterly results
- Provide training and mentorship for others on the team in various areas including SAP and COPAS
Minimum Education/Experience Guidelines
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance required
- Six years of experience required (three years operational accounting experience preferred)
- Computer Proficiencies: SAP and Microsoft Office applications.
