We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Machinist at our corporate office located in Ludington, MI.

Primary Function

The IC Journeyman Machinist position’s primary job function is to perform all the machining work for the Ludington site.

Essential Functions

 

Functions that must be performed in order to fulfill Primary Function stated above include:

·         Must be familiar with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and be able to read technical drawings / blue prints.

·         Know and safely operate the plant machine shop equipment (manual end-mill, manual lathe, manual drill press, saws, grinders, degausser, mechanical brakes, punches, and presses, etc.)

·         Must be able to perform basic machinist tasks such as the following:

o    Layout, machine & aid in assembly of various plant machinery components / assemblies.

§  Bore I.D’s of motor couplings.

§  Machine Riser blocks for laser alignment, pump back plates & machine pump impellers (cast iron and alloy).

§  Drill and tap shafts for conveyors, elevators, and pump housings.

§  Mill keyways, valve actuators, shim blocks, and non-conforming keys.

§  Removal of broken bolts and taps.

o    Construct necessary tooling or fixtures to aid in machining processes.

o    Make repairs & fabrications based on oral / written instructions, piping specifications, self-taken fielded measurements, sketches or blueprints.

o    Must have basic material knowledge (i.e. material properties, heat treatments, speeds / feeds, etc.)

o    Use a micrometer to within 0.0001 inch accuracy.

·         Work with Engineering & Maintenance to identify improvement opportunities in designs, materials, methods of fabrication, machinery, tooling, etc.

·         Complete documentation for work as required.

·        Utilize the maintenance work process to complete work.  Provide daily job progress to scheduler and routine feedback to planner to ensure efficiency and continuous improvement.

·         Learn, follow, and occasionally create and update applicable procedures to ensure that all jobs are completed in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner.

·         Occasionally create or update procedures and/or work with Engineering to update drawings to ensure documentation accuracy.

·         Responsible for knowledge and use of all area and job specific safety equipment.

·         Perform daily housekeeping activities to maintain a safe and environmentally sound workplace.

·         Assist with training of new employees.

·         Complete all training requirements as determined by site needs.

·         Industrial Craftsman (IC) role – Perform other non-Machinist maintenance work you are trained for and can execute safely.

·         Actively support and participate in programs to continuously improve plant operations through problem-solving teams, etc.

·         Actively support plant and corporate HESS safety programs, objectives, and expectations.

·         Follows the Ludington Guiding Principles.

·         Must be able to work with others in a self-directed workforce environment.  Teamwork is an essential competency.

Supports the Food Safety Program and Quality Program. Adheres to FDA requirements.

Qualifications

 

Education/Certification Requirements 

Pre-employment Requirement

·         Ideally a 2-year college Associates Degree in Machine Tool Tech. or 5 years of documented machining experience.

·         Candidates with National Institute for metalworking skills (NIMS) Certifications are preferred:  Machining Level I & Level II.  NIMS Machining Level III and any additional NIMS certifications will add to candidate’s potential for selection.

·         Must pass a hands-on exam.

 

Post-employment Requirement

·         Forklift License

·         Overhead Crane License

·         Candidates who possess minimal work experience and do not presently possess a NIMS certification but are willing to pursue NIMS certifications will also be considered.

Physical Requirements

 

·         Climb multiple flights of stairs to access the top of tanks and process equipment.

·         Work in all types of weather (heat, humidity, sub-zero cold, etc.) 

·         Must be able to perform duties requiring standing for extended periods of time.

·         Bending and kneeling around machining equipment for extended period.

·         Perform typical physical requirements found in maintenance such as repetitive pushing, pulling, and lifting motions.

·         Ability to lift 60 pounds.

·         Mounting and dismounting a forklift or lift multiple times per shift.

·         Ability to work around chemicals such as hydrochloric acid, calcium chloride, magnesium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, lubrication oils, greases, and chemical cleaning agents.

·         Ability to wear all required PPE.
