ExxonMobil has an apprenticeship agreement with the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, U.S. Department of Labor, between the Company and the person employed as a Machinist apprentice. The term of apprenticeship will be for three years. Upon satisfactory completion of the requirements of the program, each apprentice is presented with a Certificate of Completion.
The Machinist Apprentice program includes minimum or 550 hours of formal instruction and skills laboratory instruction. The class and lab program includes programmed instruction, lectures, demonstrations, laboratory exercises, slide-tape presentations, video tape recordings, workbook exercises, hands-on practice exercises, written tests, and performance tests. The skills laboratory is a supervised, hands-on activity within which the apprentice actually participates in applying and/or practicing the facts, principles, theory, and safety aspects related to the particular subject or skill being studied.
The apprentices are given field and/or shop work assignments that permit them to develop proficiency and self-confidence in applying the theory and principles and safety aspect of the trade in order to install and maintain machinery type equipment satisfactorily at the Baytown facility.
