A leading gold operation in Southern Africa is looking for a senior Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of key mechanical systems and contribute to the growth and transformation of the plant. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on challenges, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and wants to make a visible impact on plant performance. The successful candidate will bring strong mechanical engineering expertise and a track record of success in dynamic mining environments. Responsibilities:

• Lead mechanical reliability and asset performance initiatives across fixed and mobile plant

• Oversee major mechanical upgrades, shutdowns and capital installations

• Drive preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to maximize uptime

• Manage EPC/EPCM contractors and vendor technical evaluations

• Develop maintenance KPIs including MTBF, MTTR and cost per ton metrics

• Mentor engineering and maintenance teams within a production-driven environment

• Ensure compliance with statutory mechanical and safety standards

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory)

• Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or Business Administration (advantageous)

• Professional registration with a recognized engineering body (preferred)

• Project management qualification (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent) strongly advantageous

• Training in Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) or Asset Management (ISO 55000 exposure advantageous)

• Minimum 10–15 years’ experience in mining or mineral processing environments

• Extensive exposure to gold processing plants (CIL/CIP, milling, crushing, elution, smelting) of over 200t
