Job Description:

One of our leading clients is currently in search for an underground Mine Manager to join one of the largest copper and silver mines in Botswana. You will Lead and direct the underground mining operations to deliver safe and efficient operational targets through effective management of resources.

This is an Executive leadership role requiring strong management experience and proven delivery within complex underground environments, reporting directly to the General Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures full compliance with all SHEC policies and statutory mining regulations and implements corrective actions from audit findings.
  • Leads and directs daily underground mining operations to achieve safe, efficient production targets.
  • Implements strategic mining objectives and develops systems aligned with modern global mining standards.
  • Oversees compliance, risk management, and the development of mining policies and procedures.
  • Manages all production reporting, data accuracy, and operational analysis to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Builds strong working relationships with senior leadership, contractors, vendors, and service providers.
  • Leads all aspects of people management, including staffing, performance, training, localisation, contractor selection, and continuous KPI improvement.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Strong leadership and team‑building ability across staff and contractors.
  • Solid communication, interpersonal, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proven contractor management experience with sound business acumen.
  • Minimum 15 years operations and technical experience in metalliferous underground mines with increasing responsibilities.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ management experience in underground mechanised mines is essential.
  • Proven paste fill experience.
  • Experience in mine construction and development, and management of mining operations and technical functions
  • Proven contract negotiation skills as well as contractor management experience, specifically an underground hard rock mining environment.
  • Bachelor’s BE or BSc in Mining Engineering or any other relevant technical qualification.

  • Mine Managers Certificate of Competency for Metalliferous underground mines.
  • A post graduate qualification in Business Management or relevant experience advantageous.
