As the Payroll Manager with Canadian Natural, you will make a significant contribution by bringing your skills, knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to shape a high performing team, while working with both internal and external stakeholders on ensuring effective and efficient operation of the entire payroll process. You will demonstrate your ability to adapt to the processes and functionality of Canadian Natural HR systems, allowing you to gain exposure to a diverse spectrum of areas. By applying your strong leadership skills to complex and challenging processes, you will excel at service delivery while interfacing with clients and employees.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversee full cycle payroll and year-end processes, serve as a subject matter expert and ensure compliance with all related federal, provincial legislation, and corporate policies as they relate to payroll
  • Develop and continuous improvement of payroll processes
  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls
  • Support organizational performance by working alongside the payroll team to build trust and provide excellent service to both external and internal customers
  • Build and shape a high performing payroll team through motivating, coaching, mentoring, developing and providing guidance to the payroll team
  • Collaborate with Finance and the other HR areas to identify, develop and improve controls around payroll processing, secure data validation and system interfaces
  • Seek to maximize efficiencies and effectiveness through partnering with other business areas

Other details:

  • This is a permanent full-time position
  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Regular Policy
  • Shift schedule: 5 days on, 2 days off (Monday to Friday)

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with a large and complex organization
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation with the Canadian Payroll Association
  • 10+ years of leadership experience
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll process improvement and business efficiencies
  • Expertise in current legislation related to payroll and employment standards and a solid understanding of stock-based compensation is required
  • Experience in Oracle HCM Cloud, Kronos (UKG) and/or Shareworks is an asset
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills
  • Confident, resourceful and highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills at all levels of an organization
  • A decisive leader who sees the “big picture” and is able to demonstrate sound and accurate judgment and make timely decisions
