1.   DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTION

          Subsea 7 has summer internship positions for engineering students to join us in our Houston, TX office.  This will be a 10-week program during the summer that provides a great opportunity to come and work with us; learn about what we do and what it means to work for Subsea 7.  The prospective interns should apply for the specific work tasks that most suit their interests/career goals.

 

This selected candidate will work with the pipeline design team to improve in-house developed software used for pipeline design.  The work will likely involve use of the integrated engineering platform (IEP) and/or various types of spreadsheets.  The use of Python programming language is likely. 

 

The candidate will be mentored with respect to operation of the (IEP) tool and guided regarding the tasks to complete, however the candidate will be responsible for delivering the final product. 

 

The candidate may also assist with the preparation of a linepipe material takeoff (MTO) track record sheet that can be used on future project tenders.     

2.   KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Become familiar with applicable industry codes and standards related to pipeline design. (ASME B31.8/4, API-RP-1111 and DNV Codes).
  • Become familiar with key aspects of pipeline design.
  • Become familiar with and operate the in-house developed tools and spreadsheets.
  • Become familiar with and operate the integrated engineering platform (IEP) and the tools within the platform.
  • Prepare a report and/or presentation (TBD) describing the work done and outcome of that work.
  • If time permits, gather information from past projects tenders related to materials proposed for those tenders and compile that information into a spreadsheet that can be referenced on future tenders.

4.   INTERFACES

Intern Supervisor – Formal reporting of feedback assessment.  Frequent informal communications and assessments are required.

 

Intern Focal Point – Occasional informal communications are required.

 

 

5.       CAPABILITY PROFILE – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND BEHAVIOURS

 

  • Minimum of enrollment in a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering program (Civil, Mechanical, Ocean, Aerospace or Marine are preferred) from an ABET accredited university or equivalent.
  • Previous mechanics of materials and structural design coursework would be helpful, but not required.
  • Familiarity with ABAQUS and or another Finite Element Analysis program would be helpful, but not required. (This can be learned on the job.)
  • Familiarity with Python programming language preferred.
  • Aptitude and attitude to learn and experience seabed-to-surface engineering requirements, software tools, and other technical issues.
  • Ability to obtain, interpret and apply relevant information for formulating sound engineering solutions under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Ability to identify and use appropriate methods, tools and best industry practices to perform engineering under supervision of senior staff.
  • Ability to produce deliverables in a timely manner that are clear and accurate.
  • Ability to develop working relationships through effective communication.
  • Ability to apply logical analysis to break down problems and to develop solutions by creative thinking.
  • Ability to pursue goals, plan, prioritize and organize work.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are required.

6.   WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primary location of the position is in the Subsea 7 regional office, located in Houston, TX.
  • No housing or relocation assistance provided.
  • 40hours working week, Typical hours between 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 to 12:00 pm on Friday.
  • Overtime may be required to meet deadlines.
  • Some flexibility in work hours available.
