Permian Operated by Others (OBO)

The company’s competitive portfolio includes assets operated by others in both Midland and Delaware Basin. Through partnerships with leading operators in the Permian, ConocoPhillips has a high-quality opportunity set that provides program flexibility and optionality. The OBO position is a strategic complement to the company’s operated position with ongoing acreage trades and business development transactions to manage risk and improve overall value of all Delaware and Midland basin assets.

In 2022, the company participated in 382 new gross drilled wells operated by others with an average working interest of 21%. The OBO position includes over 4,600 gross non-operated producing wells. Net production in 2022 averaged 192 MBOED.

Description

If you are selected as the OBO Reservoir Engineer, you will provide comprehensive oversight of the Delaware Basin OBO program and drive process and tool optimization. You may be eligible for the voluntary hybrid office work (HOW) program that is designed to provide employees with flexibility while maintaining the advantages of in-person engagement.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Develop OBO capital/production monthly forecasts for financial outlooks and Long-Range Plans
  • Perform sophisticated technical and economic analysis of OBO ballots and well AFEs to optimize and evaluate feasibility of future projects, including considerations for capital, expense, and incremental economics
  • Estimate OBO resource/reserves, and support Reserves Compliance Assessment Team (RCAT) reviews [Development Resources Tracking System (DRTS), Proved Developed Producing (PDP), Proved Undeveloped (PUD)]
  • Collaborate across multiple Corporate and BU functions including Land, Commercial, Business Development, Regulatory, HSE, and Asset Development teams
  • Support development and implementation of OBO data analytics tools
  • Work closely with Geologists and asset teams to share and use knowledge and strategic opportunities to improve understanding of well and reservoir performance, as well as finding opportunities to collaborate with operated acreage

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Petroleum Engineering, other related engineering field, or foreign equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in exploration and/or development positions in the upstream oil and gas industry

Preferred:

  • Intermediate level of proficiency with various industry databases and software applications (Spotfire, Aries, ValNav, Mosaic, OFM, ArcPro, Harmony, DSO, Enersight, Generwell, Wellview)
  • Intermediate level of proficiency understanding of DCA techniques and fluid flow regime classification
  • Intermediate knowledge of subsurface project management, project economics, and portfolio management
  • Intermediate level of experience in unconventional assets and understanding of hydraulic fracturing and well communication
  • Intermediate level of experience evaluating acquisitions, divestitures, and acreage trades
  • Demonstration of strong social skills supporting ability to work with multiple individuals with concurrent project requirements/deadlines
  • Ability to work efficiently within multi-functional teams both internally and with OBO partners
  • Ability to establish networks and relationships with multiple functions outside of immediate area of expertise
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
