Job Description:

One of our leading clients is currently in search for an underground Safety, Health and Risk Manager to join a multicultural environment. The role will require the individual to champion and drive Safety, Health and Risk strategies and programmes. In addition, the incumbent ensures that the company complies to applicable regulations and that alignment is achieved with reporting requirements for both international and local standards in the jurisdictions that the company operates.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Safety, Health & Risk strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Direct and guide the development and implementation of an effective governance programme.
  • Define and Oversee Complaints and grievances management.
  • Oversee company-wide Risk Management.
  • Ensure Governance, Standards and Control documents are maintained and comply with legislation, regulatory requirements, and policies.
  • Lead the development of Safey, health and Risk strategies and implementation tactics.
  • Define HSR reporting, and systems.
  • Drive Safety compliance.
  • Provide Safety oversight on training and development.
  • Direct and oversee on-site health and trauma management, including employee health care, community health care, wellness, occupational hygiene and emergency response services.
  • Drive relationships with stakeholders to enable optimisation of the business value chain.
  • Manage the Department budget as per Delegation of Authority Matrix
  • Manage a division that builds people, values difference and creates an inclusive work environment.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • A good understanding of mining (surface and underground), engineering, smelter and process operations.
  • Heading the division and interacting regularly with EXCO members, shareholders, and various heads of the mine.
  • In-depth working knowledge of all relevant Safety legislation.
  • Knowledge of plant and mining processes.
  • Enterprise-wide Risk Management and Governance frameworks.
  • International Standards (ISO), i.e. ISO 45001, ISO9001.
  • National Diploma in any of the Safety, Risk or equivalent (SHEQ / Risk Management) or Engineering or Mining.
  • 15 years relevant experience within a mining/concentrate production/engineering safety environment, with 5 years at a senior managerial level overseeing Safety, health and Risk for large scale mining operations.
  • English – French / Swahili advantageous.
