Job Role Summary

The Scrum Master has the opportunity to partner with our upstream trading business lines to lead a team of analysts in supporting solution implementations.  In Agile, the Scrum Master is a challenging position that cares about the team effectiveness and puts a focus on “making a great team”. The SM is responsible for monitoring the scrum processes and scrum meetings. The SM increases his team efficiency, motivates the team, and argues for changes that will ensure quality and timeliness. The SM ensures the DoR (Definition of Ready) and D (Definition of done) is being followed. Our team members have a strong sense of curiosity and ingenuity to quickly learn new domains and have diverse backgrounds in project management, change management, and application deployment.  



Job Description:

  • Guiding the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers.
  • Guiding the team on self-organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks.
  • Assessing the maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.
  • Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment.
  • Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis on healing and problem-solving.
  • Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.
  • Facilitating discussion, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
  • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
  • Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially on grooming and maintaining the product backlog.
  • Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example.
  • Often works under minimal direction with a broad scope

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, science, communications, or technology, with strong background in project management, business requirement analysis, and agile methodology.  Excellent analytical/problem solving skills and passion in learning.
  • 2+ years’ experience in Project Management.
  • 2+ years’ experience as a Business Analyst.
  • Experience in playing the Scrum Master role for at least 2 years for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.
  • Knowledge and Experience in General Agile Implementation
    • User Stories and Requirements Gathering
    • Estimation of User Stories
    • Prioritization
    •  Building a good working relationship with Product Owners
    •  Agile Metrics
    • Team Kick-Off
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
  • Knowledge of various well-documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown technologies, various Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.).Able to identify, address, and resolve conflicts within project team.
  • Excellent analytical/problem solving skills, and a passion for continual learning. 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing priorities and stakeholders.
  • Must be self-motivated and be driven to learn.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skills.
  • Possesses a high level of interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, as well as external suppliers and organizations.
  • Has the demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations to large audiences within multiple levels of the organization. 
  • Possesses excellent problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Excellent ability to solve problems and meet deadlines by juggling multiple, competing and changing priorities.
  • Solid PC skills including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database software. 
  • Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 
    • Scrum Master Certification 
    • 2+ Years Agile Team Coaching Experience would be great
    • 2+ years’ experience in Oil and Gas industry.
    • Agile methodologies (e.g., SCRUM, Kanban, & SAFe)
    • Agile tools (MS Team foundation Server-TFS, Pivotal Tracker, or comparable tool)
    • Project management software (MS Project etc.)
    • HTML, MS share point, 
    • Automate testing
