Delaware Basin Overview

Spanning West Texas through Southeast New Mexico, ConocoPhillips holds approximately 709,000 total net acres in the Delaware Basin, which includes approximately 699,000 unconventional net acres. ConocoPhillips began exploring and appraising the basin’s stacked pay potential in 2012 and has gained extensive technical expertise to optimize development. Entering 2023, the company now operates over 2,800 wells throughout the Basin.

In 2022, the company operated an average of 10 drilling rigs, including one electric rig, and 153 new operated wells were brought online. Net production in 2022 averaged 321 MBOED.

Description

This position is for a (Senior) Facilities Engineer within the Delaware Basin South (DBS) asset. The position is in Midland, TX, with primary assets located in west Texas (Loving and Ward counties). The DBS assets are comprised of tank batteries, wellpad separation facilities, oil and water gathering systems, central processing facilities, and salt water disposal facilities, accounting for production of around 140,000 barrels of oil equivalent each day.

The DBS Facilities Engineering team is accountable for the design and technical integrity of all surface facilities within the Delaware Basin South asset across their lifecycle. This includes IDENTIFICATION of issues and opportunities, INVESTIGATION to determine root causes and solutions, and IMPLEMENTATION of those solutions, all in close collaboration with other teams across the company.

Responsibilities may include:

  • IDENTIFICATION: Technical surveillance (monitoring process trends, model development, etc.), Field engagement (participation in daily operations meetings, building relationships with operators and field leadership, regular visits to field locations)
  • INVESTIGATION: Conduct formal and informal root cause investigations, Develop and select solutions that meet the business goals (safety, cost, production, emissions), including required front-end engineering work
  • IMPLEMENTATION: Deliver solutions, including detailed engineering, reviews, fit-for-purpose process hazard analyses, management of change (MOC), and end-to-end project management

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, other related business field, other related technical field, or foreign equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in design, construction and/or operation of oil and gas facilities in the United States
  • Ability to regularly travel to field locations (primarily day trips in a company pool vehicle)

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of experience in design, construction and/or operation of oil and gas facilities in the United States
  • 3+ years of experience with hydrocarbon production operations support and troubleshooting
  • 3+ years of experience in small and large project management, engineering, design, construction, cost control, start-up and troubleshooting of oil and gas facilities
  • Experience with gas compressor design, operation, and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with key work processes, particularly Management of Change (MOC)
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working across organizational boundaries, particularly between engineering and operations
