Job Description:
Our client, a well-established mining operation in Africa, is seeking an experienced Senior Long-Term Mine Planning Engineer to join their Technical Services team on a contract basis. This role is critical to the strategic planning and optimization of the mining operation, with a strong focus on Life of Mine planning, economic optimization, and alignment between long-term strategy and operational execution. The successful candidate will play a key role in maximizing asset value and extending mine life.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, maintenance, and optimisation of Life of Mine (LOM) plans
- Develop mining scenarios and economic optimisation models to support strategic decision-making
- Integrate geological and geotechnical data into long-term planning models
- Ensure alignment between strategic mine plans and operational delivery
- Work closely with Geology, Operations, and Finance teams to ensure integrated planning
- Update planning models as resource and reserve data evolves
- Participate in technical studies including PEA, PFS, and FS
- Monitor, analyse, and report performance against long-term plans
- Provide technical input to improve mine design, sequencing, and scheduling outcomes
Requirements – Qualification and Skill:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in mine planning, with strong exposure to long-term planning
- Proven open-pit mining experience (Africa experience preferred)
- High level of proficiency in mine planning software such as Deswik, Whittle, Datamine, and Surpac
- Strong understanding of mining economics and project evaluation
- Practical, hands-on and field-oriented approach to mine planning
