Job Function:

The successful candidate will report to the Pipeline and Coating Design manager as a member of the Materials and Coating group.  Material engineers will interface closely with tendering, Field Development Group, Subsea7 Fabrication Team, client and vendor to ensure quality delivery of offshore subsea projects.  The applicant should be familiar with fabrication and welding of subsea structures and material selection for all related equipment.  As a Senior Material and Coating Engineer, the applicant should be experienced with the following:

  • Material Selection and philosophy documents capturing PLETs/ILSs, manifolds, jumpers an pipelines and associated systems including umbilicals and flying leads
  • Internal corrosion, erosion and inhibitor assessment
  • Welding Procedure Qualification and WPS.
  • NDE methods Procedure
  • All Welding Codes including typical US based welding and materials codes (such as ASME, API, AWS, NACE) as well as international codes and standards (such as DNV, Norsok, ISO, EN, etc.)
  • Experience with mechanical, metallurgical and chemical testing methods.
  • Experience with NACE, sour and sweet service
  • Material Specification for linepipe, induction bends, forging and fittings

 Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Weld Engineering or similar Material Science related field with a minimum of 7 years practical experience in weld engineering.
  • Must have fluent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficient with most common business software tools and packages.
  • Knowledge of base materials such as carbon steel pipe, forgings, CRAs (including nickel alloys, duplex and super duplex stainless) as well as inlay and overlay cladding of these materials.
  • Subsea fabrication, manufacturing, and material selection of the following; PLET’s, PLEM’s, jumpers (rigid or flexible), umbilical’s and related structures (SUTA, TUTA), manifolds, subsea connection systems, subsea valves, pigging equipment, pull-in heads, suction piles and other subsea foundations.

 Desirable work experience or additional Certification

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector or Certified Welding Engineer (current or past)
  • NDE Certifications such as ASNT Level II or preferably Level III in multiple NDE methods (current or past)
  • Experience and familiarity with various offshore operator’s (majors and independents) materials and welding specifications.
  • Welding of both the pressure containing kit and fabricated steel structures (skids, frames, mudmats, mooring) used in typical subsea structures.
  • Experience with manufacture and testing of line pipe
  • Experience with hot induction bending of pipe
  • Forging and materials processing techniques for control of mechanical properties.
  • Experience with flanged connections and bolting.
  • Coatings, insulation and corrosion control experience.
  • Welding/Brazing/bonding of the various CP anode attachment methods.
  • Experience with subsea cathodic protection systems, and the material related issues of CP (HIC) in the subsea environment.
  • Experience with CP design and verification
