Subsea7 are looking for Senior or Principal Welding and Materials Engineer to join our UK & Global IRM team to be based in our Westhill, Aberdeenshire office on a staff or contract basis.

Operating in a technical, challenging and diverse environment the role will involve working with various diverse engineering projects. 

The role will be responsible for supporting work on tenders, studies, live projects and Research and Development Initiatives.

We welcome applicants from a range of sectors including subsea equipment providers, nuclear and power, HP Drilling and Military Design industries.

 

What will you be doing?

Structures

  • Provision of specialist knowledge and expertise to organisation including reviewing Welding and Materials procedures in connection to Spools, Manifolds and Towheads
  • Problem solving to provide solutions to the organisation in relation to Welding and Materials
  • Ensuring that Technical compliance is maintained in the work conducted 
  • Providing Technical support of procurement activities including provision of specifications and resolution of technical issues
  • Providing Technical support of Subsea 7 and subcontracted fabrication activities
  • Providing Technical support to tenders
  • Mentoring / supervision of less experienced engineers where appropriate
  • Interfacing with several different stakeholders including, Subsea 7 PPG, members of Welding and Materials team, clients, Quality department, Project Teams and Subcontractors
  • Liaison with client and Inspection Verification Body and technical authorities
  • Liaison with other discipline teams as part of dedicated project teams
  • Identification and control of discipline specific project budgets
  • Reviewing Welding procedures from Subcontractors

Pipelines

  • Review and develop material specifications and data sheets for line pipe procurement suitable for S-Lay, Reel lay and Bundles
  • Provide materials support to the pipeline design discipline from conceptual and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) studies to execution and technology development projects
  • Perform material selection and give support and recommendations to studies, tenders and projects
  • Provide input and support to tenders and projects on materials procurement and manufacturing
  • Provide support and ensure technical compliance for manufacturing
  • Participate in testing and qualification activities in connection with manufacturing
  • Interface with other stakeholders including, Subsea 7’s Pipeline Group (PG), members of welding and materials discipline, quality department, project teams, clients and subcontractors
  • Liaise with other disciplines as part of studies, tenders and project work
  • Provide materials support to the Structural discipline for spools / structural pipework including pipes, bends, fittings, flanges, valves and structures

 

 What experience would we like you to have?

  • A degree in metallurgy, materials technology or other suitable degree
  • Experience working in a Subsea Materials Engineering position or similar
  • Good knowledge of applicable materials standards and specifications
  • Experience in dealing with various departments and external suppliers and stakeholders
  • It would be desirable for candidates to have knowledge of BS4515 and DNV OSF101
  • Good organisation and systematic working methods
  • Good communication skills and be able to interface with various stakeholders and departments
  • A positive attitude
  • A high level of integrity
  • Strong analytical skills
