Delaware Basin Overview

Spanning West Texas through Southeast New Mexico, ConocoPhillips holds approximately 709,000 total net acres in the Delaware Basin, which includes approximately 699,000 unconventional net acres. ConocoPhillips began exploring and appraising the basin’s stacked pay potential in 2012 and has gained extensive technical expertise to optimize development. Entering 2023, the company now operates over 2,800 wells throughout the Basin.

In 2022, the company operated an average of 10 drilling rigs, including one electric rig, and 153 new operated wells were brought online. Net production in 2022 averaged 321 MBOED.

Description

The Delaware Basin South asset team is seeking a Reservoir Engineer with a strong upstream oil and gas background. This position will report to the Delaware Basin South Reservoir Engineering Supervisor in Midland, TX. The asset Reservoir Engineer leads an integrated asset team (Landmen, Regulatory, D&C, Projects, and Production Ops) in building development, operating, and surveillance plans to maximize value and accelerate returns in collaboration with G&G and Reservoir Characterization teams.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Identify and evaluate technical and economic merits for development program and ensure timely execution of field development plans
  • Perform production and completion design optimization analysis to sensitize on variables impacting well performance and inform type curves and spacing/stacking development strategies
  • Work with asset Geology, Land, Facilities, Operations, and others to update plans and maintain accurate reflection of asset development within multiple programs and systems
  • Use surveillance tools to monitor and diagnose production performance and make recommendations to production operations as necessary to maximize value and minimize operational downtime
  • Recommend data gathering and testing programs to improve understanding of well and reservoir performance
  • Support Planning, Finance and Marketing with near-term business outlooks and long-range plans
  • Conduct Year End SEC reserves determination and production forecasting for Proved Reserves

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, other related technical field, or foreign equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering experience in the upstream oil and gas industry

Preferred:

  • Experience in unconventional assets and understanding of hydraulic fracturing and well communication
  • Proficient understanding of DCA techniques and fluid flow regime classification
  • Familiarity with ConocoPhillips business planning processes and tools
  • Experience with production and pressure transient analysis tools
  • Experience evaluating acquisitions, divestitures, and acreage trades
  • Knowledge of subsurface project management, project economics, and portfolio management
  • Ability to work with limited guidance with high level of initiative and creativity
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills – translates information so it is received and understood clearly with intention
  • Proficient with various industry databases and software applications (Spotfire, Aries, ValNav, Mosaic, OFM, ArcMap, Harmony, DSO, Enersight, Generwell, Wellview)
  • Takes ownership of actions and follows through on commitments by holding others accountable and standing up for what is right
  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
