About the Role

Are you passionate about optimizing oil and gas assets and shaping the future of energy development? Santos is seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Reservoir Engineer to lead our technical assessments and support key operational and development decisions.

As the Senior Staff Reservoir Engineer at Santos, you will play a crucial role in evaluating and enhancing the performance of our operated oil and gas assets. Your expertise will guide infill drilling programs, reservoir management, and reserves analysis. By developing robust and defendable reservoir models, you’ll forecast production and volume outcomes under various development scenarios, ultimately driving optimal reservoir depletion plans and maximizing the value of our resources.

  • Develop and Maintain Reservoir Models: Create and manage dynamic models to test reservoir uncertainties, evaluate depletion plans, optimize development sequences, and identify opportunities for increased production and reserves.
  • Contribute to Subsurface Activities: Engage in petroleum engineering, drilling, workover, completion programs, reservoir simulation, reserves redetermination, and reserve audits.
  • Forecast and Data Provision: Provide volumetric, EUR, and forecast data for corporate production forecasts and economic assessments of future projects.
  • Promote Integration: Ensure cohesive integration across all reservoir development disciplines to enhance project outcomes.
  • Support Drilling Operations: Offer reservoir engineering expertise to support on-call asset drilling operations.
Position Accountabilities:
  • Robust Modelling: Develop and maintain technically robust reservoir simulation models to support optimal development and depletion planning.
  • Economic Assessments: Deliver recovery factor, EUR, and production forecast ranges for economic evaluations, annual production forecasts, and reserves reports.
  • Mentorship: Mentor less experienced engineers and specialists in reservoir modeling, simulation, and integration of reservoir engineering data.
  • Collaborative Integration: Collaborate with reservoir and petroleum engineers, petrophysicists, and geoscientists to ensure consistent engineering and geological interpretations.
  • Documentation Preparation: Prepare detailed documentation for new drills for internal and Joint Venture (JV) approvals.

Essential experience required for this position includes:
  • A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in the E&P business with specific PNG experience strongly preferred. 
  • Experience in the application of reservoir engineering principles to oil and gas production in clastic reservoirs, with strength in reservoir simulation. 
  • Extensive experience in the analysis of reservoir, well and facility performance using common industry software including PETREL RE, Eclipse, MBAL, Prosper/GAP, OFM and PVTsim (or equivalent).
  • Experience in asset evaluation and integrated asset development planning.
Desired experience for this position includes:
  • Experience in coaching and supervision of junior staff.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that can be applied across disciplines.
  • Ability to respond flexibly to the company’s needs and understand the appropriate level of detail for the specific task.
