Job Description:

To develop, establish and maintain the Smelter quality control and metal balance management systems as well as drive technological advancement to enable and support efficient and effective Smelter production. The role includes operationalising strategy, overseeing, managing, and controlling product quality and managing technical specialists to ensure efficiency, quality and safety of smelter operations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the Smelter quality control system in alignment with the company’s strategy and DRC legislation and regulations
  • Obtain and maintain QCC system registration and certification
  • Consult on, supervise and implement Smelter Design, Construction & Commissioning
  • Function as a quality control system subject matter expert and company representative
  • Understand and support the smelter strategy and construction plan
  • Translate the construction plan and implement the Smelter quality control system design
  • Supervise the construction progress and oversee construction quality to ensure milestones are met
  • Establish and maintain the 6 Sigma management of the smelter
  • Oversee, manage, review and promote the quality management system
  • Develop and implement the department’s operational plan as part of the production strategy and goals
  • Develop, implement, improve and maintain the smelter metal balance management system
  • Represent the Company in the arbitration of the quality of copper with the buyer and 3rd parties
  • Promote awareness and drive innovation and adoption of new technologies, equipment and processes to ensure the smelter is on top of the latest technology trends
  • Conduct feasibility and evaluation of new technology and materials and obtain approval for implementation
  • Build working relationships across teams and functional lines to enhance work delivery, collaboration and innovation
  • Coordinate, monitor and supervise the performance of direct reports
  • Forecast, secure and manage the budget as per Delegation of Authority Matrix
  • Support the Transformation agenda

 

 

 

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Bachelor’s degree with chemical major
  • 20 years’ relevant smelter quality control and metals balance management experience with proven experience in building, commissioning and maintaining Smelter quality control system  
  • At least 10 years’ experience in a managerial position
  • Entire Smelter operations, equipment, machines, instrumentation and infrastructure
  • Troubleshooting (to determine causes of operating errors and establish remedial actions)
  • Understanding Smelting methodologies specific to the Smelter processes
  • Testing and technical analysis of materials in copper smelting production
  • Using copper smelting laboratory instruments and equipment
  • DRC Legislature knowledge
