Senior Technical Manager – Energy Storage

Leap29 have a fantastic opportunity which is available, as Senior Technical Manager, to oversee the technical delivery of Battery Storage projects across the UK and Europe.

Detailed below are the core areas of focus:

Development / Technology

  • Responsible for providing ongoing support the development team giving relevant input to the land, planning and permitting of storage projects.
  • Responsible for maintaining a watching brief on storage technology advancements and project deployments to inform storage strategy.
  • Work closely with the Principal Engineer with responsibility with Grid to optimize grid connection strategies for projects.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of role energy storage plays (or will play) in each of the markets.
  • Ensure that the development pipeline is future proof to take advantage of storage technology advancements.



  • Provide technical input on commercialisation strategies for energy storage projects and development of required revenue stacks to make projects economically viable.
  • Be responsible for technical input on external procurement process to procure battery services (CFD, EFR, etc.).
  • Develop solutions that leverage battery technology to unlock project economic value (e.g. constraint relief)
  • Lead on the development of conceptual project designs to deliver ‘revenue stack’ for the projects and that is compliant with market rules.



  • Responsible for the preparation of the project specifications (Employer’s Requirements) that will be used during the procurement processes for storage projects.
  • Responsible for coordinating with the Principal Engineer, with responsibility for Grid to specify the grid connection for the project.
  • Responsible for leading on the technical optimisation of the project and liaising with the Engineering Team on optimising layouts, grid connections and project designs
  • Responsible for the preparation of the project schedule, incorporating all project delivery parameters including construction schedule, grid connection dates and any restrictions imposed in the project permits.



  • Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key supplier and advisors in the energy storage market.
  • Responsible for supporting the procurement processes for utility-scale renewable projects with a focus on solar, wind and battery storage projects across the business.
  • Responsible for the preparation and finalisation of all technical schedules in the EPC contracts.
  • Responsible for identifying any lead time equipment (e.g. HV equipment) and engaging the Procurement Team to ensure such equipment is procurement on a timely basis to support the project schedule.
  • Where required, responsible for the coordination of appointment and management of any related external advisors.
  • Responsible for leading the RFP (Request for Proposal) / RFI (Request for information) in accordance with the Delivery Schedule for the projects.
  • Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of the project virtual data room during the financial close process.
  • Responsible for providing technical guidance and input into the key project contracts (EPC, O&M, MSA, PPA, Financing Agreement, Grid Connection Agreement) during the Financial Close process.
  • Responsible for providing technical input assumptions to the modelling team.
  • Responsible for the appointment and management of the Owner’s Engineering and the Lender’s Technical advisor during the financial close process. This will include addressing any technical issues raised by the lender’s advisors during the due diligence process.


  • Develop and improve internal processes and operations with other teams, to optimise overall commercial results.
  • Build Energy Storage team as required to support growth and market presence.
  • Become the internal subject matter expert on energy storage technology and deployment.
  • Present to management and board on all role related themes/topics.
  • Develop strong internal relationship with multi-disciplinary teams (legal, technical, finance, asset management) to be effective in the role.
