The position

The summer internship programme is aimed at students from the second year of their higher education onwards, from technical and non-technical backgrounds. To be eligible, you must be enrolled as a student between September and December 2022 and have work eligibility for the country you are applying for. 

You will join us on a six-week hybrid programme – partly physical and partly virtual – designed to give you the experience and skills you need in your studies and future career. Working flexibly, you will split your time between working as part of a team within one of our business areas and delivering a group project with several of your fellow interns. In this period, you will have one-week off from the 18 July to the 22 July 2022.

By joining this position in Marine Operations and Technology, interns will be offered technical challenges, tasks and group work within one of the two following business areas, in addition to the common summer internship programme:

  • Project Development
  • Technology Digitalisation & Innovation

The business areas are accountable for the global project development, well deliveries, research and technology across Equinor. Our engineers participate technically in developing offshore facilities for oil, gas or renewable energy production. The work can be within research, feasibility studies, through engineering and construction, or to assist our operating units.  

In our Projects organization we are responsible for installing offshore installations (wind turbines, platforms, subsea equipment, cables etc.) in a safe and cost-efficient way.  

In Technology, Digitalization and Innovation we deliver safe and efficient technology, innovative solutions to problems and create new opportunities 

Your exact assignment will be decided based on our business needs, combined with your field of expertise and interest. This year we are looking for summer interns within our departments for: 

  • Geotechnics 
  • Maps and Geospatial Services 
  • Seabed mapping and Seabed intervention 
  • Marine Operations 
  • Offshore wind solutions 

We welcome applicants with knowledge in:

  • Matlab
  • Excel
  • ESRI ArcGIS 
  • ESRI and Oracle database 
  • Python 
  • Omnia/Azure
  • Microsoft Power Platforms (PowerBI, Power App, etc.)
  • Sesame 
  • SIMA 
  • Orclaflex 
  • Data processing/data management in various computer/script programming languages is beneficial, but not required.

The projects are run by cross-discipline teams and as a summer intern you will either take part in one of our projects or work on cross-project improvement initiatives. You will collaborate closely with our engineers.  Your exact assignment will be decided based on our business needs combined with your field of expertise and your interests.

  • Bachelor, Master’s degree or PhD with a good academic record within Geotechnics/Civil engineering, Geophysics/Survey, Marine technology (hydrodynamics, installation), Data management, Physics/Mathematics/StatisticsGeomatics, Geospatial, GeographyMeteorology/Oceanography.
  • Fluent in English and preferably a second working language
  • No more than one year of relevant full-time work experience
  • Completed at least two years of higher education
  • Be a student, enrolled on a higher education institution, between September and December 2022 (Master’s and PhD candidates)
  • The interns need to be located in the country where the internship takes place during its full duration 
  • Candidates must have the necessary work permit for the country in which, and at the time, they are applying for a position. Please note that we do not facilitate work permits for this role. Read more about it in the national authorities’ pages: Norway
  • Extracurricular activities and/or voluntary work is an advantage
