Job Description:

Our client, a leading gold and copper producer, is seeking an experienced Superintendent – Open Pit Mine Planning to join their mine technical services team on an expatriate, fly-in-fly-out basis. You will lead the open pit mine engineering function and be responsible for all open pit planning activities from the mid-term (rolling three-monthly) down to the daily execution plan. Leading a small team of mine engineers, you will build and maintain robust, practical schedules, oversee drill and blast planning, and drive productivity and cost-efficiency across the operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop and mentor the open pit mine engineering team to optimise performance and achieve production and cost targets.
  • Build and maintain robust, practical mine schedules across the short-term (daily to weekly) and mid-term (rolling three-monthly) planning horizons.
  • Monitor progress against plan and budget, reporting and addressing significant deviations.
  • Oversee and approve drill and blast plans, and develop drill and blast design standards and ensure compliance.
  • Ensure operational and infrastructure designs are practical, safe and cost-effective.
  • Identify and drive improvements in productivity and cost reduction.
  • Align mine plans to the long-term (LOM) integrated mine schedules and blend plans.
  • Complete month-end reporting to management and communicate plans clearly to all stakeholders.
  • Undertake project work as required.

Requirements: Qualification and Skill

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (or equivalent), with relevant accreditation from a professional body.
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in open pit mining operations, with a strong technical background in open pit mining, equipment and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in mine planning software – Deswik.
  • Strong understanding of geotechnical principles, slope and bench design.
  • Expert knowledge of the open pit mining cycle, with practical, hands-on experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, cost control and financial analysis related to mining operations.
  • Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with the ability to coach, mentor and motivate a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent data management, problem-solving and cross-departmental coordination skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal) is required for reporting and liaising with international teams.
  • Valid Light Vehicle License.
