Job Summary

Alaska Overview
ConocoPhillips is Alaska’s largest crude oil producer and largest owner of exploration leases, with approximately 1.2 million net undeveloped acres at year-end 2022. The company produced an average of 200 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2022. ConocoPhillips has major ownership interests in two of North America’s largest legacy conventional oil fields, both located on Alaska’s North Slope: Kuparuk, which the company operates, and Prudhoe Bay. Additionally, ConocoPhillips operates several fields on the Western North Slope. The company has an ownership interest in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and owns/operates the Polar Tankers fleet.

Kuparuk Overview
The Greater Kuparuk Area, located approximately 40 miles west of Prudhoe Bay, encompasses the Kuparuk Field and four nearby satellite fields.

The Kuparuk Field is one of the largest onshore producing fields in the United States, with more than 500 active producing wells. Rotary-drilled wells and sidetracks from existing wellbores utilizing coiled-tubing drilling are the primary means for development drilling at Kuparuk. Field installations include three central production facilities that separate oil, natural gas, and water, as well as a seawater treatment plant.

In 2022, ConocoPhillips’ net crude oil production at Kuparuk averaged 47 MBOED.

Description
ConocoPhillips Alaska is recruiting a Turbine / Rotating Equipment Mechanic for projects on the North Slope of Alaska based at Kuparuk. This position is remotely based requiring a 14 days on and 14 days off 12 hours / day schedule (2×2 / 12hr. shift) with limited overtime as required.

The successful candidate is required to have 5 or more years of Journeyman / Lead level heavy industrial gas turbine overhaul and maintenance experience, specifically with GE Frame and Siemens/Ruston turbine packages. Experience with Dresser/Clark & Sulzer centrifugal compressor trains is preferred. Additional preventive maintenance experience with heavy industrial equipment is desired including but not limited to experience with field balancing, precision measurement, component inspections, borescope inspections, mechanical seals, bearings, couplings, and precision alignments.

This position may also be responsible for performing general facility maintenance duties including but not limited to repairs on air handling equipment, pumps, seals, and valves. The ConocoPhillips Alaska team is seeking individuals that have a demonstrated track record of personal & team driven successes, achievement in project leadership, innovation, teamwork, technical growth, and personal success.

The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and will be capable of providing clear work direction to contract work crews as required. Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems is desired. The successful candidate must be able to safely perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods of time, working either day shift or night shift as assigned.

Job Description

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Planning routine work & project activities
  • Gas turbine maintenance project management, and leadership
  • Routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling heavy industrial gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, pumps, gearboxes, generators, and miscellaneous equipment
  • General facility maintenance functions and work outlined on preventative maintenance work orders
  • Must be able to initiate work without direct supervision and lead a contract workforce in daily activities
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to generate detailed written notes and reports pertaining to preventive maintenance, mechanical maintenance, and gas turbine specific major maintenance projects
  • Component inspection which includes extensive precision measurement, qualification of parts, report generation, and vendor interactions

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • 5+ years of experience as a Journeyman /Lead level gas turbine mechanic overhauling & repairing GE Frame & Siemens/Ruston gas turbine packages, Dresser/Clark & Sulzer centrifugal compressor trains or equivalent equipment
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work in a remote work location on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off work schedule

Preferred:

  • Millwright certification
  • 5+ years field balancing experience with heavy industrial gas turbines
  • 5+ years precision alignment experience using indicators and or a Rotalign
  • 5+ years direct process facility general mechanical experience
  • 5+ years experience with a computerized maintenance management system, preferably SAP
  • Advanced technical written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deliver zero incident HSE results, demonstrated by a history of safety leadership
  • Proven track record of project achievement, teamwork, innovation, technical growth, and increasing professional successes
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for an extended period
  • Proactively values and promotes team effort and a positive work environment
  • Safety and environmental awareness, working in such a way to protect both people and the environment
  • Excellent communication skills ensuring that the information given is received and understood as intended
