Job Description:
We are partnering with a well-established international mining group to appoint an experienced Superintendent for Underground Mine Planning as they build out their underground operations in Asia. Offered on an expatriate Roster or Residential basis within the mine technical services team, the role owns the full underground planning cycle, spanning the daily execution plan through to the rolling three-month mid-term horizon. Heading up the underground mine engineering function and a small team of planning engineers, you will produce and refine development and production schedules, direct drill and blast and stope design, and steadily lift productivity and cost performance across the operation. The position reports to the Senior Superintendent for the Integrated Mine Planning division.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, develop and mentor the underground mine engineering team to optimise performance and achieve production and cost targets.
- Build and maintain development and production schedules across the short-term and mid-term planning horizons.
- Monitor progress against plan and budget, reporting and addressing significant deviations.
- Oversee and approve development and production drill and blast plans – including ring design, and develop drill and blast and stope design standards and ensure compliance.
- Ensure underground designs – including ground support and their interface with ventilation and backfill requirements – are practical, safe and cost-effective.
- Identify and drive improvements in productivity and cost reduction.
- Align mine plans to the long-term (LOM) integrated mine schedules and blend plans.
- Complete month-end reporting to management and communicate plans clearly to all stakeholders.
- Undertake project work as required.
Requirements: Qualification and Skill
- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (or equivalent), backed by membership or accreditation with a recognised professional body.
- At least 8 years spent in underground mining operations, underpinned by a sound technical grounding in underground methods, mobile equipment and safety practice.
- Hands-on command of Deswik for mine planning and scheduling.
- A firm grasp of the geotechnical principles that govern underground work, extending to ground support and stope design.
- Deep, practical familiarity with the full underground mining cycle.
- A proven track record across budgeting, cost control and financial analysis in a mining setting.
- Confident leadership and people-management ability, with a knack for coaching, mentoring and drawing the best from a multicultural workforce.
- Well-developed data-management, problem-solving and cross-functional coordination skills.
- Full written and spoken English, sufficient for reporting and working alongside international teams.
- A valid vehicle licence.
