Milan — Nigeria LNG Limited, NLNG, says artificial intelligence, AI, will become central to its operations as it pursues efficiency, safety, and sustainability across its value chain.

Speaking at the ongoing Gastech 2025 Conference in Milan, NLNG’s Deputy Managing Director, Olakunle Osobu, said the company is embedding AI in its business processes to remain competitive while reinforcing its “Goal Zero” safety aspirations.

“Artificial intelligence is no longer a concept of tomorrow; it is today’s driver of efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in the energy sector. At NLNG, we’re embedding AI across our value chain to ensure our business is future-ready,” Osobu declared.

He added: “Importantly, our ‘Goal Zero’ safety policy and operational efficiency targets are being significantly enhanced by AI. This has led to the improvement of our safety and business performance across the company’s entire value chain.”

Highlighting NLNG’s AI strategy, Osobu explained that the company is already deploying virtual reality tools and AI agents to accelerate staff onboarding and enhance knowledge retention. He said smart cameras and satellite technologies are now providing advanced visual analytics for more precise monitoring of operations and safety compliance.

“Process automation and predictive maintenance tools are enabling production and enhancing asset reliability, while AI-driven optimisation is strengthening emissions monitoring to support NLNG’s energy transition commitments,” he noted.

The NLNG executive stressed that integration is key, adding that embedding AI into existing platforms unlocks predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance strategies to keep assets running at peak performance.

Osobu further disclosed that NLNG has established a Centre of Excellence to upskill its workforce and ensure AI adoption aligns with business needs.
