Port Harcourt — The Nigeria LNG Limited, NLNG, in collaboration with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, has successfully closed out the Advanced Human Capital Development, HCD, training for 122 young Nigerians under its landmark Train 7 Project in Finima, Bonny Island.
The programme, which officially ends on September 30, 2025, provided hands-on training in plant and facility management, instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, lifting and rigging, fabrication, and preventive and corrective maintenance.
The trainees, drawn from both graduate and vocational categories, gained rare exposure to live LNG operations and achieved a zero-incident safety record.
Speaking at the close-out ceremony, NLNG’s Train 7 Project Director, Engr. Ali Uwais, represented by Engr. Joshua Anemeje, Train 7 Project Corporate Liaison Manager, said the training underscored NLNG’s commitment to building capacity for the oil and gas industry.
“This programme is about building a new generation of Nigerian professionals who will shape the oil and gas sector for decades to come. Its successful completion with a zero-incident safety record reflects not only your dedication but also NLNG’s uncompromising culture of ‘Safety First and Always’, and its operational excellence,” Uwais stated.
He commended the NCDMB for its strategic role in deepening local content and hailed the training partners — Candix Engineering Nigeria Limited, AOS Orwell, Arco Marine and Engineering Limited, Dover Engineering and Amaiden Energy Nigeria Limited — for delivering a world-class on-the-job training experience.
On behalf of the NCDMB Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, the General Manager of Human Capital Development, Esueme Dan Kikile, described the initiative as a major step in Nigeria’s local content journey.
“This training produced a pool of skilled and globally competitive workforce. The participants are now knowledgeable in advanced technical disciplines and project management and can compete globally in the oil and gas industry and its linkage sectors,” Ogbe said.
He revealed that 27 trainees received special recognition awards for outstanding performance, while six of them secured automatic employment with AOS Orwell, one of the training partners.
Ogbe added: “This training provided hands-on experience on a live LNG project that complimented your academic and theoretical knowledge. It further exposed you to emerging technologies, health and safety practices, and specialised technical disciplines critical to the future of the industry.”
The Train 7 Project, one of Africa’s largest gas infrastructure developments, continues to generate jobs and build local capacity while advancing NCDMB’s Human Capital Development Guideline (2020), which mandates deliberate training and empowerment of Nigerians on major projects.
