Port Harcourt — The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPC Ltd, through its Research, Technology, and Innovation subsidiary, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF, to accelerate the adoption of technology-driven solutions in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The agreement, sealed today at PTDF’s headquarters in Abuja, aims to deepen collaboration in research, innovation, skills development, and commercialisation of solutions to address industry challenges.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, NNPC Ltd’s Executive Vice President, Business Services, Sophia Mbakwe, said the partnership reflects a shared resolve to harness collaboration for real-world impact.
“The MoU unites our strengths to advance local content, foster technology adoption, and develop the next generation of energy professionals. Together, we will pursue initiatives in research, innovation, skills development, and commercialisation of solutions to address industry challenges,” she stated.
PTDF’s Executive Secretary, Ahmed Galadima Aminu, described the alliance as a commitment to national progress grounded in mutual trust and aligned objectives.
“By leveraging PTDF’s research infrastructure and NNPC Ltd RTI’s laboratories, we are establishing a robust foundation for collaborative testing, validation, and deployment of breakthrough technologies in areas such as refinery catalyst production, biofuel production, oil and gas drilling operations, and geological mapping,” he said.
The MoU outlines key areas of cooperation, including joint research and development activities, technical support, data and knowledge sharing, establishment of infrastructure and innovation hubs, local content development, and capacity building.
The agreement is expected to be a significant boost to Nigeria’s energy technology ecosystem, with potential to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and expand opportunities for indigenous talent.
